On National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, we remember the lives lost, support the families and communities impacted, and recognize those working every day to prevent another tragedy.

As we look ahead to National Recovery Month in September and National Opioid Awareness Day on September 21, we are reminded that awareness must lead to action through prevention, treatment, recovery support, and effective policy.

At the Rx and Illicit Drug Summit, we are honored to bring together leaders working across prevention, treatment, recovery, public health, public safety, and policy to share solutions, strengthen communities, and save lives. https://hubs.ly/Q04tVtDT0

Fatal drug overdoses have declined for the third consecutive year, according to newly released CDC data. This is a powerful sign that the work being done across prevention, treatment, recovery, harm reduction, and public health is making a difference.

This progress belongs to the field: the providers, peers, clinicians, advocates, policymakers, families, and communities who refuse to give up.

But progress is not enough. Every life lost is one too many, and we remain committed to sustaining this momentum until fatal overdoses subside for good.

Better happens in the room. At Rx Summit 2026, progress was built through meaningful conversations and real connection.

Across sessions, hallways, and the exhibit hall, stakeholders in the fight against opioid misuse and overdose deaths came together with a common purpose: to exchange ideas that shape practice and policy and form connections that extend beyond the event.

This is where knowledge turns into action and where the fight against overdose deaths gains momentum.

- Our partners at The University of Kentucky announced a new tool during Rx Summit 2026 that will give the state's opioid response a data-driven edge.

Rapid Actionable Data for Opioid Response in Kentucky (RADOR-KY), informs overdose prevention and response efforts throughout the state by giving health departments, community organizations and policymakers access to near-real-time opioid overdose data for every county in Kentucky.

This is why we meet.

For Jennifer McQuade, Assistant Principal at Springfield Public Schools, the Rx and Illicit Drug Summit is about bringing critical information back to her community, parents, students, and staff.

Because the reality is hard:
This epidemic is in our schools.
Students are at risk every day.

“This is something we need people to understand, this is our reality now.”
