BEFORE YOU APPLY FOR NAFDAC, DO THIS ONE THING FIRST 👇

Many flour business owners rush with excitement, and then get stuck. Why? Because the business itself wasn't properly set up first.
Before you think about NAFDAC, ask yourself:
✅ Is my business name properly registered?
✅ Is my business name & Logo "trademarked"?
✅ Do I have a clear production space?
✅ Do I know exactly which products I want to register?
When your foundation is solid, the rest of the process feels lighter. When it isn't, you end up going back and forth, losing time and money.

I've seen people start the NAFDAC process first and then realise they were missing something basic. Don't be one of them.
Take 10 minutes today and write down your answers to those three questions. You'll be surprised how much clarity it gives you.

DOES YOUR FLOUR PRODUCT NEED NAFDAC REGISTRATION? 🤔

This is one of the first questions you should ask if you're producing and selling flour or powdered food products.

And the answer isn't simply:

“I’m a small business, so I don't need registration.”

Your business size alone shouldn't be the only thing guiding your decision.

If you're producing a food product and putting it into packages for consumers to buy, you need to understand the regulatory requirements that apply to your particular product and business.

This is where many small food business owners make a mistake.

They start selling first.

The business grows.

They begin supplying more customers.

Maybe they want to enter supermarkets or work with distributors.

Then someone asks:

“Is your product NAFDAC registered?”

And suddenly, registration becomes urgent.

My advice is simple:

DON'T WAIT UNTIL YOU NEED THE REGISTRATION BEFORE YOU START LEARNING ABOUT IT.

Start by finding out what applies to your product.

Understand the process.

Know what you may need to prepare.

Look at your packaging and labelling.

And always verify current requirements and fees directly with NAFDAC or its official channels because requirements and fees can change.

Remember, being small doesn't mean you shouldn't think about building your food business properly.

WHY I STARTED TALKING ABOUT NAFDAC REGISTRATION

My interest in NAFDAC registration didn't start because I wanted to create social media content about it.

It started from real experience in the food business.

I have personally gone through the process of registering food products, and along the way, I realised how overwhelming the process can feel when you're trying to figure everything out for the first time.

You have questions.

What do I need?

Where do I begin?

What documents should I prepare?

What about my packaging?

What happens during inspection?

How much should I budget?

And then there are the different opinions and advice you hear from people around you.

Sometimes, the problem isn't that the information doesn't exist.

The problem is that it isn't always presented in a way that a small food business owner can easily understand.

That's the gap I want to help address with this page.

I want to take the things I've learnt from my own experience and break them down into simple, practical and easy-to-understand information.

I'm not here to make NAFDAC registration sound more complicated than it is.

I'm also not here to promise shortcuts.

My goal is simply to help you understand what you're getting into, prepare better and avoid common mistakes.

DO YOU SELL FLOUR IN PACKAGED FORM? READ THIS. 👀

If you produce and sell flour or powdered food products in packaged form, one thing you shouldn't ignore is regulatory compliance.

Many people focus heavily on the product itself:

“Is the flour good?”

“Will customers like it?”

“Is my packaging attractive?”

“Can I sell it on Instagram and WhatsApp?”

Those things matter.

But there is another question you should also be asking:

“What do I need to do to sell this product properly?”

This is where many small food business owners begin to get confused.

They hear about NAFDAC registration, but they don't know when to start thinking about it.

They hear different requirements from different people.

Someone tells them one thing.

Another person says something completely different.

Then they become frustrated and decide to postpone everything.

My advice?

ONE THING MY FOOD BUSINESS TAUGHT ME…

Running a food business taught me that producing a good product is only one part of the journey.

You can have a great flour product.

You can have beautiful packaging.

You can have customers who love what you sell.

But as your business grows, you also need to start thinking about doing things properly and meeting the requirements that apply to your product.

That was one of the things I learnt when I started dealing with food product registration.

At first, the process can look overwhelming.

There are documents to think about.

There is packaging and labelling.

There are things to prepare before you begin.

And if you don't understand the process, it is very easy to become confused or depend completely on what someone else tells you.

My experience taught me that understanding the process yourself is important, even if you eventually decide to get professional assistance.

You should know what you're paying for.

You should know what stage you're at.

And you should be able to ask the right questions.

That is one of the reasons I decided to start sharing what I have learnt.

I don't want food business owners to feel completely lost when the topic of NAFDAC/SON registration comes up.
