I met a new client recently, and this was one of the first things she told me.
She had completely removed rice from her diet because she was scared it would “give her sugar.”
Why?
She had been seeing so many stories ONLINE about diabetes, kidney disease and other health problems that she had become afraid of food.
So she restricted herself.
Then I noticed the large bunch of plantain she had bought, you should see the size, you’ll think she owns a plantain plantation ( I hope I’m correct 🤣🤣)
She had simply replaced one food with another, believing she was protecting herself.
And this got me thinking…
How many people are changing the way they eat because of something they saw on social media, without actually understanding what applies to them?
One day it’s:
“Don’t eat rice.”
“Carbohydrates are bad.”
“Fruit has too much sugar.”
“Never eat this.”
“Never eat that.”
Before you know it, you’re afraid of half the foods in your kitchen.
Take it easy Precious
Please, don’t let social media turn food into something you fear.
If you’re concerned about diabetes, your blood sugar, your weight, your kidneys or any other aspect of your health, get the right information for YOUR situation FROM a MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Google can give you information.
Social media can give you opinions.
But neither knows your health history, your lifestyle, your food habits or your actual health numbers.
And sometimes, we spend money on skincare, hair, clothes and all sorts of things, but consulting a nutrition professional?
“Ah ah, is it not just food.”
“If I pay for a meal plan will it cover the cost of getting the food”
TOR!
Food is part of your health.
Don’t wait until fear makes your diet unnecessarily restrictive. Get proper guidance.
⁉️ Have you ever or do you know someone who stopped eating a particular food because of something you / they saw online? 👀 Biko let’s laugh in the comments
