🚨 EBOLA AWARENESS: STAY INFORMED, STAY SAFE! 🩺

Your health and safety matter! 💙

Ebola is a serious viral disease that can spread through direct contact with the blood and other body fluids of an infected person, as well as contaminated materials. Early recognition, proper hygiene, and timely medical attention are essential in preventing its spread.

🛡️ HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF?

✅ Wash your hands frequently with soap and clean water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

✅ Avoid direct contact with the blood and other body fluids of anyone suspected of having Ebola.

✅ Do not touch the body of a person who has died from suspected or confirmed Ebola. Safe and dignified burial procedures must be handled by trained personnel.

✅ Avoid handling potentially contaminated materials.

✅ Follow official public health advisories and guidance from health authorities.

✅ If you develop symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea, or unexplained bleeding after a possible exposure, seek urgent medical advice and inform healthcare personnel about your exposure. Avoid close contact with others while awaiting guidance.

📢 DON'T PANIC. DON'T SPREAD UNVERIFIED INFORMATION. STAY INFORMED!

Ebola prevention requires awareness, responsible behaviour, and collective action. Protect yourself, protect your family, and help keep your community safe.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: For verified updates about any reported Ebola case in Abuja, consult the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and other official health authorities. This awareness message does not independently confirm a reported case.

INFECTION CONTROL

_1. The Chain of Infection_
The chain of infection describes how infectious agents spread from one source to another. It consists of six links. Breaking any link helps prevent the transmission of infection.

_1. Causative Agent (Infectious Agent)_
The microorganism or agent responsible for causing an infection.
Examples:
Bacteria
Viruses
Fungi
Parasites
Prions

_2. Reservoir_
The place where an infectious agent normally lives, grows, and multiplies.
Examples:
Humans
Animals
Soil
Water
Contaminated surfaces

_3. Portal of Exit_
The route through which an infectious agent leaves its reservoir.
Examples:
Respiratory tract: coughing or sneezing
Mouth: saliva or vomitus
Blood: bleeding or blood exposure
Skin: wounds or lesions
Gastrointestinal tract: faeces
Genitourinary tract: urine or ge***al secretions

_4. Mode of Transmission_
The method by which an infectious agent travels from its reservoir to a susceptible host.
Types include:
Contact transmission: Direct physical contact or indirect contact through contaminated objects.
Droplet transmission: Respiratory droplets produced during coughing, sneezing, or talking.
Airborne transmission: Inhalation of infectious particles that remain suspended in the air.
Vehicle-borne transmission: Transmission through contaminated food, water, blood, or medications.
Vector-borne transmission: Transmission through living carriers such as mosquitoes and ticks.

_5. Portal of Entry_
The route through which an infectious agent enters a new host.
Examples:
Respiratory tract
Gastrointestinal tract
Genitourinary tract
Broken skin
Mucous membranes
Bloodstream through needlestick injuries
The portal of entry may be the same as the portal of exit, but this is not always the case.
