GRIEF IS EXHAUSTING. 💔

Nobody prepares you for how tiring grief really is.

It’s the memories, the emotions, the heaviness, and waking up each day having to face the reality of your loss.

Some days you’re okay, and other days the smallest thing brings it all flooding back.

Sometimes you’re not even crying.

You’re just tired, quiet and irritated.

Needing space to simply BE.

As someone who has spent years helping others navigate grief, I’m learning that knowing about grief and living through it are two very different things.

I’m learning that I don’t have to be strong every day.

I don’t have to find a lesson in every painful moment.

Sometimes I just need to breathe, rest, and allow myself to feel.

So, if you’re grieving too, be gentle with yourself, e te whānau. ❤️

You are not weak.

You are carrying a loss your heart is still learning to live with.

Some days, simply getting through the day is enough.

Arohanui,
The Spiritual Aunty 💜

✨ THE GLOW IS DIFFERENT WHEN YOU’VE BEEN THROUGH HELL AND BACK. ✨

Sometimes the glow isn’t about looking good, being happy, or having everything together.

Sometimes the glow is about surviving things you never thought you’d have to face.

It’s the quiet strength you carry.

The wisdom you’ve gained.

The boundaries you’ve finally set.

The people and situations you no longer entertain.

The peace you protect because you now understand just how precious it is.

Sometimes life breaks your heart open in ways that change you forever.

You start seeing people differently, appreciating the little things, and realising that so much of what once mattered really doesn’t anymore.

And sometimes, through the pain, the tears, the loss, and the healing, you find your way back to yourself.

Not the old you.
A wiser you.
A softer you in some ways, stronger in others.

A you who knows that life is too short to waste on things that steal your peace.

That glow? It’s not just beauty.

It’s growth. It’s healing. It’s survival.

It’s the light within you refusing to go out, even when life gets dark.

And remember, whānau, you don’t have to glow every day.

Sometimes your light needs rest, too.

I am still strong.

The glow will return in its own time.

No rush.
No pressure.

Just healing, one day at a time.

💔 UNDERSTANDING GRIEF… UNTIL YOU’RE THE ONE LIVING IT.

For years, through the multitude of readings I’ve done, I’ve sat with people who were grieving.

I’ve witnessed their tears, felt their pain, connected with their loved ones in Spirit, and held space for the heartbreak that comes with losing someone you love.

As The Spiritual Aunty, I’ve shared tools, wisdom, guidance and words of comfort to help others navigate their grief.

I understood grief… or at least, I understood it from the outside looking in.

But now, with the passing of my Dad, I’m experiencing it from an entirely different place.

There is a difference between understanding grief and having to live it.

No reading, no amount of spiritual knowledge, no healing modality and no words of wisdom can fully prepare you for the reality of losing someone who has been part of your world your entire life.

You can know all the tools.

You can understand the stages of grief.

You can believe in the continuation of the soul and know that love never dies.

And still, your heart can break into a million pieces.

I’m learning that grief doesn’t always look like tears.

Sometimes it looks like silence.

Sometimes it’s anger, exhaustion, irritation, laughter, or wanting everyone to leave you alone.

Sometimes you’re okay one minute, and the next, something so small brings you to your knees.

And sometimes, you simply don’t have the energy to be the person everyone knows you to be.

Right now, I’m having to practise everything I’ve encouraged others to do.

To give myself permission to feel.

To sit with the discomfort.

To honour my own needs.

To stop trying to make sense of everything and simply allow myself to be.

Perhaps this is another part of my own journey of learning, not because I needed to lose my Dad to understand grief, but because living through this experience is teaching me things that no amount of knowledge ever could.

So, if you’re grieving, please remember you don’t have to navigate it perfectly.

You don’t have to be strong every day.

You don’t have to turn your pain into a lesson or find the meaning in it straight away.

Sometimes, you just need to get through today.

One breath 💜
One moment 💜
One memory at a time 💜

I’m learning to give myself the same aroha, patience and compassion that I have spent years giving to others.

Dad 🕊️
Your daughter is learning to navigate a world without you physically in it, while carrying your love with her always.

I’m enjoying the silence. Taking a breather. 🤍

People think it’s the silence that makes grief harder, but honestly, it’s the noise that irritates me.

The constant chatter, the unnecessary drama, the everyday noise of life carrying on when your world has been turned upside down.

Sometimes you don’t want to talk.

You don’t want to explain how you’re feeling.

You don’t want to be around people.

You just want to BE.

To sit in your own space, breathe, think, cry if you need to, or simply exist without anyone expecting anything from you.

Grief is exhausting, and right now, silence feels like peace.

Please don’t mistake my need for quiet as me pushing people away.

I’m just giving myself the space I need to process a loss that words will never fully explain.

Sometimes the most healing thing you can do is switch off from the world and just be with yourself. 🤍🕊️

💔 The funeral is hard, but in many ways, that’s the easy part.

The hardest part is still to come.

It’s the days, weeks and months afterwards that nobody really prepares you for.

It’s waking up and remembering they’re no longer here.

It’s reaching for the phone to call them, then remembering you can’t.

It’s the empty spaces, the silence, the memories that catch you off guard, and the moments when life carries on around you while yours feels like it has stood still.

It’s watching the world continue as normal when your world has changed forever.

At the funeral, you’re surrounded by whānau, friends, aroha and support.

There are people checking on you, making sure you’re okay, making sure you’ve eaten, making sure you’re not alone.

But when everyone returns to their own lives, when the visitors stop coming, when the messages become less frequent, and the reality of their absence settles in… that’s when the real journey through grief begins.

Because saying goodbye is one thing.

Learning to live without them is another.

So please, check on your people long after the funeral is over.

Remember them on the difficult days.

Sit with them in the silence.

Don’t assume they’re okay just because they’ve stopped crying.

Grief doesn’t end when the service is over.

Love doesn’t end when their last breath is taken.

And healing doesn’t mean forgetting.

It means learning how to carry a love that now has nowhere physical to go.

He aroha mutunga kore — a love without end. 🕊️💔

🤍 It’s time for The Spiritual Aunty to practise what she preaches. 🤍

For so long, I’ve shared tools with others to help them navigate grief, trauma, healing and life’s challenges.

I’ve encouraged people to breathe, ground themselves, sit with their emotions, reconnect with their wairua and give themselves permission to feel.

Now, it’s my turn.

As I navigate the loss of my Dad, I’m reminding myself that knowing the tools doesn’t mean the journey won’t hurt.

Being a healer doesn’t make me immune to grief.

Being the one who holds space for others doesn’t mean I won’t need space held for me.

So, it’s time for me to come back to the very things I share with everyone else.

To breathe when it feels heavy.

To ground myself when my emotions feel overwhelming.

To honour my tears, lean into my wairua and take each day as it comes.

I don’t have to have it all together.

I just have to give myself the same aroha I so freely give to others.

Right now, I’m not trying to rush my healing or put a timeframe on my grief.

I’m allowing myself to be the daughter who misses her Dad, the woman who is hurting and the Spiritual Aunty who is learning to walk this journey one breath at a time.

Because sometimes, the tools we share with the world are the very tools we need to bring ourselves home.

Ko au tōku Rongoā — I am my own medicine. 🌿

And today, I begin by giving myself permission to heal, in my own time, in my own way.

Aroha mai, aroha atu. 🤍🕊️

Kia Ora Koutou 💜

I’ve been sitting on how to write this, because sometimes there really aren’t the right words when you lose someone you love.

My Dad has passed away 😢

So for the next couple of weeks, The Spiritual Aunty is going to take a little step back from bookings.

Right now I need to be Davina, the daughter, the mum, the whānau member — not the Aunty everyone comes to for guidance.

We’re coming together to farewell Dad, share our stories, have a few tears, plenty of laughs, and honour the man he was and the love he gave us.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out, sent messages, checked in or simply held us in your thoughts. It means more than you know.

I’ll be back when I’m ready.

Until then, please be patient with me and know that your love is felt.

✨ WHY DO WE ALLOW PEOPLE TO MAKE US FEEL BAD ABOUT OURSELVES? ✨

Sometimes it’s not because we don’t know our worth…

It’s because we’ve heard the same criticism, judgement or negativity so many times that we start believing it.

We start questioning ourselves.
Our choices.
Our appearance.
Our abilities.
Our worth.

But let me remind you…

Someone else’s opinion of you is not your identity.

You don’t have to shrink yourself to make someone else comfortable.

You don’t have to keep proving your worth to people who have already decided how they want to see you.

And you certainly don’t have to carry words that were spoken from someone else’s pain, jealousy, insecurity or lack of understanding.

✨ You are allowed to see yourself differently.
✨ You are allowed to choose yourself.
✨ You are allowed to walk away from what constantly makes you question your worth.

Sometimes healing is simply learning to stop handing other people the pen and allowing them to write your story.

Ko koe tonu. Know who you are. Know your worth. ❤️

✨ STOP FEELING GUILTY FOR CHOOSING YOURSELF. ✨

Let me tell you something…

You do not have to keep showing up for everyone just because they’re used to you always being there.

You are allowed to step back.

You are allowed to say NO.

You are allowed to protect your energy.

You are allowed to put yourself first.

And no… that doesn’t make you selfish.

What’s selfish is expecting someone to keep giving when they’re already running on empty.

Some people will make you feel guilty because your boundaries no longer benefit them.

That guilt isn’t yours to carry.

You have spent enough time worrying about who might be disappointed in you.

Start worrying about what happens when you keep disappointing yourself.

Choose you.
Protect your peace.
Look after your wairua.

And if someone doesn’t like the new boundaries you’ve created…

They’ll adjust. 😏
