It’s Back Care Awareness Week — but your back doesn’t only need looking after once a year!

At GroomFest NZ, I watched groomers spend hours bending, reaching, twisting and holding sustained positions.

These movements are part of grooming, but small changes in how you set up and move throughout the day can reduce unnecessary strain on your back.

🎥 Watch the video for two simple changes:
✅ Get closer to your work instead of constantly reaching.
✅ Move your feet rather than repeatedly twisting from the same position.

And remember — stretching your back at the end of the day isn't enough on its own.
Better setup. Smarter movement. Short, frequent resets.

I had a fun weekend at GroomFest NZ in the Wellness Zone.

I learnt about acupuncture for pets from 4 Paws, how to care for itchy /sore skin Eezapet - relieves the itch balm (works great on humans too)
We watched this flamboyant dog strut her stuff and walk like a true model, until she got distracted by Newflands dog treats. Watch that tail!

👀 Still saving your stretches until the end of the day?

By then, your back has already spent hours bending, reaching and holding the same positions.

The answer isn’t necessarily a longer stretching session after work.
🔁 Interrupt the load while it’s building.

A quick reset between dogs can take less than a minute ⏱️ — and it fits into the grooming day you already have.

✅ Small. Frequent. Groomer-specific.

Your body is one of the most important tools in your business. Start looking after it while you work, not only when it starts complaining.

Your back does a lot of work during a grooming day — especially when lifting dogs.

A small change in how you lift can help reduce unnecessary strain.

Think:
wide base → hips back → dog close → lift using your legs.

And whenever you can, avoid lifting, especially from floor level. Even a low step or raised surface reduces how far you need to bend which makes it easier on your back.

The aim isn’t perfect posture every second. It’s making the job a little easier on your body, lift after lift, dog after dog.

I’d really like your help with something.

I’m developing GroomerReset to help groomers protect their bodies and keep grooming for longer — but I want to make sure I’m focusing on the things that actually matter to you.

At the end of a busy grooming day, what bothers you most?

A. Hands or wrists
B. Neck or shoulders
C. Lower back
D. Something else

And if you’re happy to share — **what grooming task tends to trigger it most?**

BONUS - Comment FREE and I will send you a FREE starter kit. This has 3 videos, showing how to set up your workstation, neck and shoulder reset and wrist /hand tips and resets.

I’m reading every response.
Your answers will help shape the next GroomerReset resources I create.

Wrist Reset #3 — a simple stretch for tired hands and forearms.

Bring your palms together, then slowly lower your hands until you feel a gentle stretch through your wrists and forearms. Keep it comfortable — no forcing.

This is the final reset in this 3-part wrist series. Try these between dogs, or whenever your hands are starting to feel stiff or overworked.

Small resets. Less accumulated strain. Better habits across the day.

Save this Reel so you can come back to it during a busy grooming day.
