High sodium food are dangerous for hypertension patients so they should avoid them.Foods that are high in sodium:
Soups: commercial canned freeze and dehydrated soup and bouillon.
Entrees: Meat, fish and poultry that are smoked or processed with salt, such as beef & its products like kebabs, sausages, dried beef etc.
Cheese: Cheese mixed with meat (of any kind) and other high sodium foods.
Vegetables: Commercially prepared tomato juice and other vegetable juices.
Starches: Seasoned potato, rice and noodle mixes, instant stuffing mixes.
Snack food: Crackers with salted tops, salted chips, nuts and popcorn, other salted snack foods.
Seasoning: Sea salt, salt brine, onion salt, celery salt, garlic salt, seasoned salt, meat extracts, meat tenderizers, monosodium glutamate, baking soda (other than in baking).
Our body needs less than 2,000 mg of Sodium per day which is less than a tea spoon of SALT!
Excessive Sodium Intake Causes:
*Increase Thirst
*Fluid Retention (Swelling & Weight Gain)
*Increase Blood Pressure (Kidney & Heart Failure)
How can you reduce your sodium intake?
*Do not use salt at the table.
*Reduce the amount of salt & flavor with herbs, lemon, spices & pepper
*Use less chips, nimco, salted nuts
*Remove salt shaker from table
*Avoid stock cubes
*Avoid sauces, e.g. Soya sauces, Worcestershire sauces
*Avoid salts substitutes
*Avoid as many processed food as possible.
