GLASSES ARE NOT JUST FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN'T SEE CLEARLY.

One common misconception, especially with Africans, is that a lot of people think you only need glasses if you are short-sighted or long-sighted, but that's not always the case.

Sometimes, glasses are also about protecting your eyes. If you spend a lot of time under the sun, in dusty and smoky environments or exposed to wind, the right protective/UV-blocking glasses can help reduce the amount of harmful UV light and environmental exposure reaching your eyes.

Long-term exposure to these factors can contribute to conditions like plerygium — that fleshy growth you sometimes see spreading from the white part of the eye towards the cornea.

So sometimes, glasses are not just about seeing better. They are also about protecting your eyes.

Protect your eyes, wear appropriate eyewear when you're exposed to harsh sunlight, smoke, dust, and wind.

Your eyes deserve protection, not just correction.

I asked Google what could make someone to suddenly fall unconsciously and wake up minutes later, Google responded with this:

Firstly, as most of us know, the medical condition is SYNOCPE (otherwise, fainting).

Secondly, I’m more concerned about the metabolic etiology which involves low blood sugar (inasmuch as we emphasise more on high blood sugar, let’s also be mindful that one’s sugar level can be extremely low), lack of food, and dehydration as well.

Therefore, no matter what you’re going through, EAT SOMETHING FIRST, TAKE ENOUGH WATER.

Lastly, there’s an immediate intervention whereby you can raise the leg(s) of the affected individual so as to enable blood flow back to the heart and brain. But, we’re advised not to raise those legs in cases of head, spinal or neck injury and situations where the affected individual is in severe pain or experiencing difficulty in breathing.

Other follow-up interventions include:
• Lie them flat
• Loosen their tight clothings
• Ensure they’re breathing and if they’re not, perform a CPR and seek for emergency medical assistance immediately.

On average, a healthy human adult blinks about 15 to 20 times every minute. Any activity or impairment that makes one blink less should be taken into strict considerations.

One good advice for you: Reduce the length of time spent on screens, and avoid staying up so late at night. Many people no longer sleep until past midnight. This can affect your sleep cycle, hence, may negatively impact your vision (short-term and long-term risks) and lower your maximum productivity.

Despite the beauty of the human EYE, it comes with its complexities, hence the need for everyone to preserve their eyes in order to enjoy good vision.

Do a routine, comprehensive evaluation at least twice per year.

Before you marry the love of your life, check your Rhesus (Rh) factor compatibility.

Many people know their blood group but have no idea about their Rhesus (Rh) factor. Yet, this simple test can be very important when planning for marriage and having children.

What is the Rhesus (Rh) factor?

The Rhesus factor is a protein found on the surface of red blood cells. If you have this protein, you are Rh-positive (Rh+). If you do not have it, you are Rh-negative (Rh−).

Being Rh-negative is not a disease, and it does not make anyone unhealthy. However, it becomes important during pregnancy.

If a woman is Rh-negative and her husband is Rh-positive, there is a chance that their baby may inherit the father’s Rh-positive blood type. During pregnancy or delivery, the mother’s immune system may recognize the baby’s blood cells as foreign and produce antibodies against them. In future pregnancies, these antibodies can attack an Rh-positive baby, leading to serious complications if not properly managed.

The good news is that this condition can usually be prevented. With early antenatal care and the appropriate anti-D injection when recommended by healthcare professionals, many Rh-negative women have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.

So, if you are a woman and you know you are Rh-negative, don’t panic but be informed. Before marriage, discuss your Rh factor with your partner and seek medical advice if needed. Knowledge and proper medical care can make all the difference.

Love is important, but informed decisions build healthier families. Know your blood group. Know your Rhesus factor. It could protect your future children.
