ChatGPT tattoo designs. We need to talk 🤓
If you’re a tattoo ARTIST, you’ve noticed it too — every other client request is AI-generated now.
Yes, it’s frustrating.
But here’s the mindset shift that helped me: it’s not our clients job to know what works on skin. That’s ours. They came with a vision — our job is to translate it into something real and lasting.
And actually — AI references can be useful. They show you exactly what the client is drawn to. The size, the elements, the composition. Take that information and make it better.
And if you’re a CLIENT — I love that you can now visualize your idea before walking in. That genuinely helps. But most AI-generated designs aren’t actually possible to tattoo. The hyper-fine detail, the complex shading, the textures — they look stunning on screen. On skin they blur, fade, and disappear over time. And just not possible to execute on the skin.
There’s also this — AI designs all tend to look the same. Same aesthetic, same feeling. And your tattoo should be yours. Seems it’s just because AI doesn’t know about other styles of tattoos 😅 than the one it already has and when you describe what would you like to see it shows design in the same way/style. At least for now.
So before you finalize your idea — explore Pinterest, Google real artists work. The tattoo world is so much more creative and diverse than any AI can show you right now.
Artists — how do you handle this?
Clients — did you use AI to generate tattoo ideas? And let me know how artists can help you with this.
