It is humbling to see a small community come together through heartache. It is a bittersweet reminder of the love we felt, we still feel, and the heartbreak that comes along with having to say goodbye to someone who you just met or never got the opportunity to meet.

Tonight, our family gathered with so many others at the Perinatal CARE Foundationโ€˜s Walk for Remembrance to honor the little lives that left this world far too soon, but will forever live in the hearts of those who love them.

Thank you to the Perinatal CARE Foundation for creating a space where our babies are remembered, their names are spoken, and their families are surrounded by love.

For the miscarriages.
For the stillborns.
For the loss of an infant or any child.
For the names of our littles we planned a life for, but never got to live.

For Vera.

I posted this on my personal page but it is something I want to reshare. The pain never goes away, you learn to live with it. You learn to help others with their pain. As a dad, it sometimes feel like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders, taking care of everyone else who is in pain while secretly trying to deal with your own pain. It shouldn't be that way, and that's what I want to change.

Thereโ€™s a part of pregnancy loss we donโ€™t talk about enough:

๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ผ ๐—น๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐˜†, ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ผ.

Kyler and I unfortunately know loss. Weโ€™ve lost three of our own.

My body was the one going through it. My hormones. My appointments. My perimenopause starting at 25. The testing, the questions, the physical reminders that something had gone wrong.

So naturally, people looked at me.

They checked on me.
They hugged me.
They asked Kyler how ๐—œ was doing.

And I understand why.

But looking back, there was a man standing beside me who had lost something too.

That is its own kind of heartbreak.

Because dads often get handed a job before they ever get handed room to grieve.

Drive her home.
Hold her.
Take care of the other kids.
Remember what the doctor said because she can barely hear it.
Answer the texts.
Be steady.
Be strong.

And somewhere inside all that strength is a father who had already started imagining a life that suddenly isnโ€™t coming.

Maybe he pictured teaching them to fish.

Maybe he wondered whose eyes they would have.

Maybe he calculated the due date in his head.

Maybe he never said any of it out loud.

A father doesnโ€™t have to carry a baby in his body to have carried that baby in his plans, his prayers, his imagination and his heart.

And sometimes while everyone is asking him to hold her together, nobody notices heโ€™s trying not to fall apart himself.

So during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, yes, check on the mama.

Please check on the dad standing beside her, too.

Every September 11th we think back on that fateful Tuesday morning. From that day on, things were different. 2977 people from all walks of life never came home. Some ran toward the danger knowing full well what may happen. Some decided that a plane wouldnโ€™t be used as another weapon to kill untold amounts of people and sacrificed themselves. Some simply only had 2 choices, and chose not to suffer.

This year, for some reason, seems to be weighing heavier on my mind than normal. Iโ€™ve served in the military, and Iโ€™ve been a firefighter for close to 9 years so 9/11 has a little more meaning for me. Iโ€™ve done a memorial stair climb on the 20th anniversary, which was an incredibly humbling experience. Today I did something alittle different and went for a ride in remembrance. I rode 29.77 miles. For most people 2977 is just a number but when you put it into perspective it hits different.

May we never forget, and always remember those who were lost that day.

Slowly but surely Im already trying to get ready for next March. Recently I have been trying to push myself, not just for my physical health, but my mental wellbeing too. The weather in west central Texas has been horrible this month, which takes a toll. I do hope everyone is doing well, and getting through these crazy times.

Always,
Kyle

This page was started because I wanted to ride my bike a long long ways and help do some stuff and things that maybe help some people along the way. I realize that Iโ€™ve never even posted a picture of my bike. So, here it is:

We named her Birdie, and I got here used her in Abilene at BikeTown. She has taken me right at around 3000 miles in 2 years. Iโ€™ve done some things here and there, maintenance, only replaced 2 tires and 3 tubes, and recently installed some aero bars. I have never once been upset and blamed something on the bike, because nothing has ever been wrong with her. Needless to say, she has become more than just a โ€œbikeโ€ and there maybe someโ€ฆ..a lot of sentimental value with her.

This picture came up in my memories on my Facebook. A memory from 7 years ago, that today we announced to the world we were expecting our 2nd child, (we didnโ€™t know the gender yet) which was our sweet girl Vera.

I know have we havenโ€™t been posting lately, but that has a lot to do with life lately. It doesnโ€™t mean we have forgotten, it doesnโ€™t mean our mission is done, or will ever be done. Again to everyone thanks for being here, sticking with us and supporting us, especially for Vera.

Part 2/2

I have been wanting to do a video about this for sometime, however it has taken me a while to gather my thoughts and formulate how I was going to do it.
This video is split into 2 parts and will cover depression and suicidal ideation/suicide. This is a very personal thing for me and I am being very open about my story. This is meant to be insightful and perhaps help someone who had struggled with this or has someone who they love who has experienced this.

I know itโ€™s been a while since anything has been posted and we do apologize for that. Life takes its turns and has its ups and downs, but nevertheless we are still here!

I just wanted to give an update, on how things are going. The last time anything was posted i told everyone that I still wanted to continue riding for Vera, I just didnโ€™t have any set goals. After focusing on my riding for the last month and doing some research, Iโ€™ve realized that right now, if I wanted to, I could compete in amateur races / benefits rides. Perhaps, that could be the next goal for us and being more awareness for Vera and everything surrounding.

Be it, I do not have a high end bike, less expensive Amazon riding gear, DIY bike maintenance, and days that are much more trying than others. After 6 months of working toward the ride in March and the last 6 weeks of riding 4 days a week this is where I stand. At an average of 17.1 mph over an average of 16 miles. Iโ€™ve had some rides of 12 miles that are 18.5mph or greater.

I want to keep this going. For her.

Always
-Kyle
