Our brave daughter, Sarah "Hunter" Duke, was diagnosed with Anaplastic Medulloblastoma at the age of 5, just 1 month after her much-anticipated brother, Noah, was born. After a hard fought battle, she went to Heaven on 9/1/08 due to complications at the tender age of 5 1/2. Since then, we have become extremely passionate about raising money to fund research for childhood brain cancer in the hopes of putting an end to this terrible disease.

Today is a hard day for many reasons... I will always wonder what could have been, who you’d be today, a senior in high-school preparing to head off to college next year? Sadly this isn’t our or many families reality. Please keep praying for and spreading the word. #gogold

Hey All...Late Lunch. Sorry this took longer than I thought it would. Today I would like to talk about something that nobody likes to talk about, death. Here it is the last day of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!! As much as I have enjoyed sharing with y'all over the last month it is also draining. What to share, what not to share and here is my final attempt to find that balance. Cancer did not kill my daughter, even though she had received a bad diagnosis: "Terminal." She had been diagnosed with Metastasized Medulloblastoma, a very aggressive type of brain cancer which had spread into her brain and spinal fluid and had affected her entire CNS. Even though she was likely never going to grow-up because of this diagnosis, the cancer itself responded very well to treatment and she was "surviving". Her body was healing, she was regaining fine motor skills, writing, coloring, and her beautiful voice even returned to us, we were working on standing and learning how to cope with the new "new" we were also getting ready to be released. We were going HOME!!! She had not been home in 3 months!! That's when a minor infection changed our plans, that turned into sepsis which turned into PCP, a type of pneumonia that only shows up in immuno- suppressed patients and in the morning of September 1, 2008 she got to go home... just not with us. So now you may be wondering...what can i do?? Talk about it. Share post from St.Jude, CHOA, AFLAC Cancer Center, PBTF, etc. There are tons of places we can gain knowledge from. Nothing will ever change without us but everything can change with us!! As we close on September and get ready to turn the world Pink for breast cancer in October ( which I think is great BTW) Why didn't the NFL, MLB, NBA, NASCAR, PGA, light up everything GOLD for September??? Not because they care more about breast cancer than childhood cancer, its all about YOU!! US!! We have the power to change this. The more we talk, the more they listen. Keep talking, keep sharing and #GOGOLD #STAYGOLD

Grief has the ability to make you loose things that are very important to you and you don't even notice at the time that its happening. Please if any of our Nurses and Doctors see any of these please tag yourselves or others. Would love to catch up, even if its just on Facebook.

Game-changing news: Peach Bowl, Inc. has committed $20 million to the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center to establish the Peach Bowl LegACy Fund. Pretty cool stuff !!

Today we spent some time with Star Benson and our friends at Aurora Day Camp, as well as other pediatric cancer organizations to honor all the children diagnosed with cancer. Mission statements and facts were shared by advocates and families. We are stronger together in our fight for a cure and our care for the families we serve! Special thanks to Governor Brian Kemp for recognizing September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the State of Georgia!

Hello everyone, WOW I can’t believe it’s been so long since I made a post on here. There has been a lot of things going on in our lives, too much to list it all but I will hit the high points. We are all good. Jennie and I are very involved at our church with both of us involved in the children’s ministry. We are in the middle of some home renovations and preparing to host foster children in our home...very exciting. Jennie’s work is good (very busy) and she will soon begin a new role which could be fun. My work has been good too, a little inconsistent getting new work but that has allowed me to get my Real Estate license and start a new career at eXp realty which has been fun, so if anyone is looking for a realtor I’m your man. Noah is great, almost done with his 4th grade year...he’s not a big fan of school but he’s doing good. He’s been playing football the last couple of years and is on a really good team but he’s disappointed because they lost the Super Bowl 2 years in a row, but hey at least they got to play in the big game...I understand his frustration though. Next year!!! Ok now for the reason I’m here and it’s not to bring y’all down.
Today is another milestone day without our dear Hunter. Today would be her 16th birthday and it’s hitting me a little harder than I thought it would, maybe it’s just coming on here and sharing this with you (I’m not real big of sharing feelings) I guess that’s just my inner 12 year old who still cracks up over fart jokes but anyway, like I said I’m not here to bring you down. God has brought us to it and He has brought us through it and contrary to the old adage, He does allow you to go through things YOU can’t handle but there is nothing HE can’t handle. God may have to drag you kicking and screaming like a 2 year old in a grocery store but He’s got you and He won’t let you go and just like your mom or dad at the time said no to that cookie (or what ever it was ) they had their reasons because unlike you they knew about the bigger better plans they had for you; just as God knows what is best for you, He sees the whole picture not just the one moment in time. I was going to insert some corresponding scriptures in here but this has taken up enough of your and my time for the day...with Easter right around the corner though I will leave y’all with just one. I feel like everyone knows John 3:16 but it’s the very next one that is one of my favorites “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
John 3:17 CSB

Happy 16th Birthday baby girl.
Love you and miss you.

Ps: I’ve added some photos of some family time in south GA doing a paper lantern release for her birthday, thank you aunt Beth for doing that it was sweet.

We're both finally on the same page about letting go of some of Hunter's things. Here's her Barbie house that we consigned at our church. And guess who bought it?!?! Our church preschool! We were delighted when we found out! Not only will we still be able to see it, but we'll get to see other little ones enjoying it, too! 💜 And here's Noah being silly 😜

PGA- Ride For Kids Tent

Hi Everyone,
Volunteer request for the PGA next week. Very last minute, but any help would be appreciated.
My friend has worked with the PGA for years, providing volunteer workers for the Atlanta event.
These volunteers work a concession tent for the PGA - 2016 FedEx Cup at East Lake Golf Club - Sept. 21 - 25

The volunteers are raising money for their charity - for us it's the PBTF/Ride for Kids.
The individual payout varies based on the concession profits.
Over the years it has ranged from $30 to $60 per 6-hour shift.
The work ranges from running the cash register, pouring beer, wine, cooking burgers, hot dogs, or other food prep.
The funds will be paid out to PBTF and will be allocated to the individual participants funding account.
This is the first year that RFK has had their own tent.

Volunteers park at the Turner Field parking lot - Gold Lot - and are shuttled to the golf course where you sign in and get your pass.
There is no way to drive to the golf course, you must take the shuttle.
Allow an additional 45 minutes for the shuttle and plan to be at the RFK tent at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start time.
Shuttle begins at 6:00am - runs until 7:30pm

A volunteer sign-up page has been set-up.
Please go to this link and sign-up for as many days as you can help.
Times are listed on link.

Here is a link to sign up https://www.volunteersignup.org/XJYXA

Attire, etc.:
RFK Polo shirt or clean white polo shirt
Khaki pants, capris or shorts (must be to the knee) No denim.
No open-toe shoes or sandals - wear comfortable shoes.
Cell phones are allowed, but must be in silent mode
No back-packs, purses or bags larger than 6"x6"x6" are allowed on the shuttle bus.
No coolers, cameras, radios, chair bags
No firearms or knives

Please share this information with your friends.
Post it on Facebook or any other social media you use.
Alan said we are really short of the people needed, and he needs to turn in the volunteer list by this Tuesday - 9/13
Please do what you can.
Thank you!
Jennie
