Hunter's Helping Hands

Hunter's Helping Hands All proceeds benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation
Hunter's Helping Hands was created to both honor and preserve our daughter's memory and to raise funds for childhood brain tumor research. Our brave daughter, Sarah "Hunter" Duke, was diagnosed with Anaplastic Medulloblastoma at the age of 5, just 1 month after her much-anticipated brother, Noah, was born. After a hard fought battle, she went to Heaven on 9/1/08 due to complications at the tender age of 5 1/2. Since then, we have become extremely passionate about raising money to fund research for childhood brain cancer in the hopes of putting an end to this terrible disease.

Our 2nd Annual Family Fun Fair will be held at the Park at City Center off Main Street in Downtown Woodstock and will include inflatables, raffle, live auction, petting zoo, DJ, food, vendor booths, arts & crafts, Cherokee County "touch a truck" and much more! All proceeds will benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, a non-profit organization whose primary goal is to find the cause of and cure for pediatric brain tumors, the deadliest form of cancer in kids.

Hello everyone, WOW I can’t believe it’s been so long since I made a post on here. There has been a lot of things going on in our lives, too much to list it all but I will hit the high points. We are all good. Jennie and I are very involved at our church with both of us involved in the children’s ministry. We are in the middle of some home renovations and preparing to host foster children in our home...very exciting. Jennie’s work is good (very busy) and she will soon begin a new role which could be fun. My work has been good too, a little inconsistent getting new work but that has allowed me to get my Real Estate license and start a new career at eXp realty which has been fun, so if anyone is looking for a realtor I’m your man. Noah is great, almost done with his 4th grade year...he’s not a big fan of school but he’s doing good. He’s been playing football the last couple of years and is on a really good team but he’s disappointed because they lost the Super Bowl 2 years in a row, but hey at least they got to play in the big game...I understand his frustration though. Next year!!! Ok now for the reason I’m here and it’s not to bring y’all down.
Today is another milestone day without our dear Hunter. Today would be her 16th birthday and it’s hitting me a little harder than I thought it would, maybe it’s just coming on here and sharing this with you (I’m not real big of sharing feelings) I guess that’s just my inner 12 year old who still cracks up over fart jokes but anyway, like I said I’m not here to bring you down. God has brought us to it and He has brought us through it and contrary to the old adage, He does allow you to go through things YOU can’t handle but there is nothing HE can’t handle. God may have to drag you kicking and screaming like a 2 year old in a grocery store but He’s got you and He won’t let you go and just like your mom or dad at the time said no to that cookie (or what ever it was ) they had their reasons because unlike you they knew about the bigger better plans they had for you; just as God knows what is best for you, He sees the whole picture not just the one moment in time. I was going to insert some corresponding scriptures in here but this has taken up enough of your and my time for the day...with Easter right around the corner though I will leave y’all with just one. I feel like everyone knows John 3:16 but it’s the very next one that is one of my favorites “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
John 3:17 CSB

Happy 16th Birthday baby girl.
Love you and miss you.

Ps: I’ve added some photos of some family time in south GA doing a paper lantern release for her birthday, thank you aunt Beth for doing that it was sweet.

We're both finally on the same page about letting go of some of Hunter's things. Here's her Barbie house that we consigned at our church. And guess who bought it?!?! Our church preschool! We were delighted when we found out! Not only will we still be able to see it, but we'll get to see other little ones enjoying it, too! 💜 And here's Noah being silly 😜

So now its been a week since my last picture post, so let me catch you up...ok. Last weekend we went to our first Ride For Kids event in Birmingham Alabama and we had a great time, we saw some old friends made some new ones.,The facility Barber Motorsports Park was amazing, the ride was beautiful and God willing we will be back next year. So, 7 days means 7 pictures.

The last 4 are from our RFK Birmingham trip, the last one being home after 2.5 hours of riding in the rain with Jennifer Callaway Duke

PGA- Ride For Kids Tent

Hi Everyone,
Volunteer request for the PGA next week. Very last minute, but any help would be appreciated.
My friend has worked with the PGA for years, providing volunteer workers for the Atlanta event.
These volunteers work a concession tent for the PGA - 2016 FedEx Cup at East Lake Golf Club - Sept. 21 - 25

The volunteers are raising money for their charity - for us it's the PBTF/Ride for Kids.
The individual payout varies based on the concession profits.
Over the years it has ranged from $30 to $60 per 6-hour shift.
The work ranges from running the cash register, pouring beer, wine, cooking burgers, hot dogs, or other food prep.
The funds will be paid out to PBTF and will be allocated to the individual participants funding account.
This is the first year that RFK has had their own tent.

Volunteers park at the Turner Field parking lot - Gold Lot - and are shuttled to the golf course where you sign in and get your pass.
There is no way to drive to the golf course, you must take the shuttle.
Allow an additional 45 minutes for the shuttle and plan to be at the RFK tent at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start time.
Shuttle begins at 6:00am - runs until 7:30pm

A volunteer sign-up page has been set-up.
Please go to this link and sign-up for as many days as you can help.
Times are listed on link.

Here is a link to sign up https://www.volunteersignup.org/XJYXA

Attire, etc.:
RFK Polo shirt or clean white polo shirt
Khaki pants, capris or shorts (must be to the knee) No denim.
No open-toe shoes or sandals - wear comfortable shoes.
Cell phones are allowed, but must be in silent mode
No back-packs, purses or bags larger than 6"x6"x6" are allowed on the shuttle bus.
No coolers, cameras, radios, chair bags
No firearms or knives

Please share this information with your friends.
Post it on Facebook or any other social media you use.
Alan said we are really short of the people needed, and he needs to turn in the volunteer list by this Tuesday - 9/13
Please do what you can.
Thank you!
Jennie

Day 2 of 31 days of Hunter, Today kicks off Childhood Cancer Awareness month...and it so happens to also be the day Hunter died 8 years ago. I will have to admit I didn't know much about childhood cancer then but since then the veil has been pulled back and I have seen what I was told was a rare event... isn't so rare. In fact in the past 8 years I have had the privilege of getting to know hundreds of kids and meet thousands of people who this disease has directly affected and to me and them it happens all too often.
So get out there and spread the word join the fight and for the next 30 days enjoy the new pictures and
GO GOLD for CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH.

Going to try and share 31 days of Hunter pictures for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month GO GOLD in September !!!

Pls pray for Madison Winn. We met this sweet family when Hunter was sick. Madi was a teen & in the middle of her battle with Medulloblastoma & she fought it into remission. It's 8 yrs later & she is in the hospital awaiting tests to find out if it has come back. Pls pray for Madi, her family and her medical team!

There's an update to this CaringBridge website. Read more and leave your message of love, hope and compassion.

It's here again...September 1. If any of y'all are new to this site or new to this fight you may or may not know that September 1st kicks off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and coincidentally and more personally it also is the day that our sweet Hunter lost her battle with brain cancer... September 1, 2008 to be exact. I / we will be trying to use this month to share facts and spread awareness and we would love it if y'all would join us.

More than 700 participants at the Atlanta Ride for Kids contributed $123,568 in donations for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation on June 7.
The 32nd annual event, held at the county fairgrounds in Cumming, Ga., honored local brain tumor survivors Addison, Amelia, Ashley, Axton, Branden, Brittany, Catherine, Chayton, Coty, Cristian, Dillon, Dru, Frederick, Jarod, Juan, Luke, Maddie, Mandy, Mao, Nathan, Neil, Stacy, Taylor and Tony.
“This is my 13th year at Ride for Kids…and this event has meant so much to me and my family,” Star Maddie said.
At the event, riders enjoyed a sunny day riding through the Georgia foothills of the Smoky Mountains.
As of June 8, the individual, motorcycle club/chapter and motorcycle business with the most raised were Jennifer Duke ($18,417), ABATE ($8,770) and Killer Creek Harley-Davidson ($13,401). The top non-motorcycle group was Team Jeremy ($19,071).
The event is still collecting donations online. Fundraisers will receive incentive credit through July 7.
Jay Haller won the drawing for a new Honda Rebel, while Wayne Sanders won a Scorpion helmet and a Cardo Systems Scala Rider TeamSet. A Dunlop motorcycle tire went to John Stevens.
Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who organized the event. This year’s task force leaders were Steve and Morissa Burwell and Bill and Vicky Phelps.

Join me in raising awareness and funds to support the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation by participating in a Ride for Kids motorcycle event.

Well folks, it's that time again. Praise The Lord, the weather looks great and as always we're looking forward to an awesome day. Please come out to the Cumming Fairgrounds and join us for a day of fun and celebration. If you are wanting to ride in the event, please be there before 9am to register and it’s kickstands up at 10am. If you don't ride... load up the car, truck, or the family-truckster and come join in. We have plenty of parking and lots of things to do. Of course, why we ride and do what we do is for the kids. The STARS (children who are in treatment for or surviving brain cancer) as always will be there shining bright and of course on motorcycles in the ride leading us out... it's always a great thing to see the crowds of people cheering them on.
Please join us this Sunday June 7, from 8-3.

But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. (Luke 18:16 NIV)
