At the age of 17 I was introduced to Iyengar Yoga from my College Dance instructor. Iyengar is a form of Hatha Yoga that has an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment in the performance or posture or "asana" and breath control or "pranayama ".The development of strength, mobility and stability is gained through the "asana". As a young Military wife, I was looking for something to do while my
husband was out of town, or in training for months at a time. In California there are Yoga studios everywhere, including walking distance from our apartment! In those earlie years Yoga kept me calm and centered when I was alone. I was very focusedon my health, home, husband, career and college. As we grow older, we forget to pay attention and tend to our own needs...and yet we keep going and push ourselves to the point where we loose ourselves. As a mother I have no regrets, but I need to be the best "ME" I could be so I could keep pushing! Time flew and before I knew it, I was suffering from High Blood Preasure, Diabetes, High Cholesterol...and that was not the worst of it, I had 4th stage Ovarian Cancer. Now I had a series of surgeries, heart attacks,
and mini strokes! I started my yoga practice again to center myself...It was beautiful, as I was able to center myself to the point of hearing the whispers of God. I was just happy to be alive, working as a Manager of a womans clothing store, speaking with woman who had cancer or knew someone who did...I became close with these wonderful ladies and I loved my job! One day I fell off a 12ft ladder, while preforming a floor move and we were short staffed. I now was out of workand in physical therapy. After a year or more of physical therapy and two more years of doctors and massage therapy, no pay and only the massage worked, my docyor said that I needed to keep moving and streaching on my own and thats when I was Blessed with the rediscovery of Yoga and with in 3 months, I lost 80 lbs! Now...I am still very involved with cancer patients and people with injuries, so they too, can hear those whispers from God, because He is the Great Healer! ...Be Blessed..Namaste!
