Dougherty County Medical Society The DCMS is an association of physicians residing and practicing in Dougherty County, GA, for the purpose of promoting the science and art of medicine and the betterment of public health.

The society is a charter member of MAG - (Med Assoc of GA)

The RiverFront Run is just around the corner. This is an annual community event that DCMS promotes for Exercise is Medicine and to support Darton College's Allied Health Program. Join us in our efforts to get the community involved in exercise. There's no better way to do this than to LEAD BY EXAMPLE.

Bring the entire family. Bring your friends. Pre-Registration closes on Thursday, October 2, so register soon! While Race Day registration will be provided, the sooner the better.

We will see YOU next Saturday, Oct 4th for the 1 mile at 8:30 am or the 5K starting at 8:50 am!


ATTENTION! If you are attending The Perfect Health Diet lecture tomorrow at 11:30 am, Darton will be marking off the the parking lot across from the bookstore and next to the physical education building for attendees of this lecture!!! Please pass on to anyone you know attending!

THE RIVERFRONT RUN is now a part of the FlintFest! The RiverFront Run is an annual event presented by the Dougherty County Medical Society as a way for physicians to lead by example and share with their patients the importance of incorporating physical activity and exercise into their daily routines...


I wanted to bring to your attention that Dr. Paul Jaminet will be giving The Perfect Health Diet lectures at Darton on August 13 and 14.

The August 13th lecture is for Physicians and Physician Guests only and by RSVP.

Dr. Jaminet will have a book signing on August 14 from 10-11 am at Books A Million at the Albany Mall.

The lecture on August 14th is at 11:30 am and open to the community. You do not need to RSVP.

Join DCMS for our March program "Ten Emotional Things Physicians Should Do to Sustain Emotional Health" on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 6:30 p.m., Darton College Student Center, Room C266. Our guest speaker is Paul H. Earley, M.D., FASAM, Medical Director of Georgia Professional Health Program

Dr. Earley has been an Addiction Medicine Physician for 25 years. He treats all types of addictive disorders and specializes in the assessment and treatment of health care professionals. As a therapist he works with patients already in recovery, providing long term therapy for those who suffer from this disease. His professional expertise extends to advocacy for professionals before agencies and licensing boards. He is an expert witness across the United States in legal matters regarding professionals and addiction.
Dr. Earley speaks nationally and internationally on topics of addiction, its treatment and addiction in health care professionals. He is the author numerous books and articles on addiction and its treatment, including The Co***ne Recovery Book. He is one of the authors of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Textbook: Principles of Addiction Medicine, including the chapter: Physician Health Programs and Addiction among Physicians. His work was featured in the documentary series on addiction entitled Close to Home by Bill Moyers. He has championed recovery in two appearances on the Oprah Winfrey show. Dr. Earley is a Fellow of ASAM and sat on the board of ASAM for over 10 years in several capacities.

DCMS is kicking off the new year with the program "Taxpayer Relief & Health Care Acts: A Hard Pill to
Swallow?" on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Darton College Student Center Room C252. The speaker is John McDuffie of Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC.

Mr. McDuffie will discuss selected tax provisions of the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 that were signed into law January 2, 2013 as well as provisions of the 2010 Health Care Acts with an emphasis on the income tax
provisions effective in 2013 and the Health Care mandate provisions of these acts.
