October is ADHD Awareness Month, and here's something worth sitting with: ADHD isn't rare. It's in the ambulance with us.

It's the paramedic who's calm in chaos but overwhelmed by the noise of a busy shift change. It's the coworker who reads every protocol twice but still feels like they're falling behind on charting. It's more people than you'd guess, maybe someone you work beside every day, maybe you.

Understanding that changes how we show up for each other.

Today, we pause.

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - a day to honour Residential School survivors and the children who never returned home.

It's also a day to sit with the truth - not just observe it, but let it change how we show up going forward.

Reconciliation isn't a single day. It's ongoing, and it starts with listening.

We encourage everyone to take time today to learn, reflect, and support Indigenous voices, organizations, and communities.

Josh has been with Associated Ambulance for just over two years.

In that time, the team's grown, the warehouse moved to a whole new building, and the systems behind the scenes got a lot smarter (hello, AI-powered inventory forecasting 🧠).

But some things haven't changed.

You still know everyone's name. You still see your leadership around. It still feels less like a big organization and more like a family that happens to run ambulances.

That's the part Josh says he's never experienced anywhere else. And it's the part we're most proud of. πŸš‘

What if it happened right now?

The truth is, emergencies don't announce themselves. They happen at the dinner table, in a parking lot, at your kid's game - and in those first critical minutes, the person who can make the biggest difference isn't a paramedic. It's whoever is standing right there.

That's the whole idea behind World First Aid Day: the gap between an emergency and help arriving is real - and it can be closed by ordinary people with the right training.

CPR and First Aid training saves lives. Neighbours, coworkers, strangers, the people you love most.

A few hours of your time is all it takes to be ready for a moment that could change everything.

We see people on their hardest days. It's part of the job.

So on World Su***de Prevention Day, we want to say this plainly: it's okay to not be okay. And it's okay to ask for help.

Talking about it isn't weakness. It's often the first step toward feeling okay again.

If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out. To a friend, a family member, a professional - or a crisis line. Every conversation matters.

Su***de Crisis Helpline: 9-8-8

AHS Mental Health Help Line: 1-877-303-2642

Emergency Services: Call 9-1-1 if you or someone you know is in immediate danger.

This is why we do what we do. πŸ’™

Back in March, a critical highway incident near Fort Assiniboine put everything our crews train for to the test. Our Associated Ambulance paramedics and Fort Assiniboine Fire worked side by side on scene, and moments like this are the reason this job means so much to us.

We don't just treat patients; we carry their outcomes with us long after the call ends.

This July, that story came full circle. Our crews got to sit down with Blake and his family, share a laugh, and see for themselves how far he's come. Nothing beats seeing a patient not just recover, but truly get back to living.

EMS is demanding work - anyone who's done it knows that.

So this summer, our team's making time for the stuff that actually recharges them. Hiking. Golf. Camping. A quiet weekend at the lake. Even beekeeping!

Because taking care of others starts with taking care of yourself first.

Here's to a summer with just as much balance as readiness.

The Rolling Barrage is marking its 10th anniversary this year, a coast-to-coast motorcycle ride from Newfoundland to the Pacific that brings together veterans, active service members, first responders, and civilians who ride in solidarity.

Since day one, the mission has stayed the same: end the stigma around PTSI and PTSD in military and emergency services. Running late July through August, the route includes daily stops, rest points, and community fundraisers along the way - including stops across Alberta and BC this month.

A ride that's really about showing up for each other.
