Our Story

Operation Walk is a private, not-for-profit, volunteer medical service organization which provides free joint replacement surgery for patients in developing countries. Operation Walk of Virginia, Inc. was founded by Dr. Gerard Engh and is one of 12 teams, the original team having been founded by Dr. Lawrence Dorr at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. The typical team is composed of volunteer surgeons, internists, anesthesiologists & nurse anesthetists, nurses, therapists, and surgical technicians.

Please help support our next mission. Operation Walk Virginia just returned from a successful September 2019 mission trip to Panama City, Panama. Instead of catching our breath, we are going to quickly shift our focus to the next mission - Cuba! The opportunity arose to take our mission group to Cuba in April of 2020. We usually allow much more time between trips to regroup and raise money, but the citizens of this Country are badly in need of joint replacements and we want to be the group to fulfill that need. We will take our team of highly trained surgeons and medical personnel and change as many lives as we can. Please donate to this life-changing cause! https://www.firstgiving.com/event/90342/Operation-Walk-Virginia.

Congratulations on a successful mission and helping forty-eight patients regain their mobility!
Hi, I am Paulina Virginia Gonzales Nuñez, from Santa Cruz, Bolivia. You performed a hip replacement surgery on me a year ago. I want to thank everyone, specially Dr. Francis Gonzales, the surgeon who performed the operation, Dr. Ken Yarbrough and the person whose email is [email protected]. Many thanks to Dr. Julie Fernandez, and please tell him I donated the walking stick I owned to the hospital. A thousand thanks. I wrote this message with the help of my daughter. Hi, I am Virginia's daugther, Maria and want to thank all the people involved in this organization for helping my mother. God bless all of you, your family and your country.
