This beautiful girl graced us with her presence in her own timing exactly on her due date. 🥰 Her mama handled every stage and pause with grace, supported by her big sister, dad, and grandma! It’s been an honor to be with this family every step of the way🤩

It’s always an honor to be invited to someone’s birth space but it’s extra special when a family has their plans change and welcomes me with trust and openness in such a special vulnerable place 🥰

Talk about a whirlwind of blessings! Our hearts are completely full (and our stamina has officially been tested!). 🏃🏽‍♀️💨

We had TWO babies born just today, and we couldn't have done it without our amazing birth community. A massive, heartfelt thank you to Midwife Daven at Dandelion Birth Services for stepping in and attending one of these beautiful births for me! We love collaborative care! 🫶
Here is a little peek into today's sweet moments:

Welcome, Baby BOY! 💙 He made his grand entrance in the early morning hours. After just a quarter of the Midwives Brew, labor kicked into high gear! His parents labored so beautifully and seamlessly together, it was an absolute honor to
witness.

Welcome, Baby GIRL! 💗 She arrived this evening into the arms of her big, loving family. After keeping us all guessing for two solid weeks, she decided she was finally ready and arrived in a total hurry!

Welcome to the world, little ones! 🎉✨

It was all true! I love this💖

It was all true! I love this💖

Things your midwife says in labor and what you actually hear:

"Just breathe through it. Blow out like you're blowing out a candle."

(Said while the baby is actively crowning. I am attempting to blow out a candle while what feels like a watermelon is exiting my bu****le. Breathing is not currently available to me.)

"Drop your shoulders and let everything from your head to your toes just loosen up."

(My insides are currently being squeezed in a mechanical vice. But sure. I'll just loosen up.)

"You're safe and you're doing such a great job."

(I am in fact not doing a great job. I am fairly certain I am dying. These feel like different things.)

"You CAN do this. You're almost there and the only way out now is through."

(At this point I have no choice. That's not encouragement, that's just math. And honestly? A little brutal.)

"This looks like early labor. The best thing you can do right now is rest."

(Said as my midwife tucked me into my own bed and handed me sleepy herbs. I'm sorry. EARLY? This cannot be early. I refuse to accept early. Early is not possible right now.)

"You really need to try and eat something to keep your energy up for pushing."

(The thought of eating anything ever again is offensive to me. I have decided this baby is never coming out and food is no longer part of my life.)

"Why don't you snuggle up with your husband and get some oxytocin flowing to help pick up those contractions?"

(Ma'am. Have you seen me? I am a sweaty, leaking, enormous human who currently feels the opposite of romantic. My husband is also a little scared of me right now. Snuggling is not on the table.)

"Your body was made for this."

(Cool. My body and I are having a serious conversation after this is over.)

"Every contraction is bringing your baby closer."

(This is technically true and also completely unhelpful right now.)

"You're almost there."

(You have said this four times in the last two hours. We need to discuss what almost means.)

And then the baby arrives.

And suddenly every single thing we said was true.

You were safe. You did do a great job. You could do it. You were almost there.

Your body WAS made for this.

And it was worth every single second.

Hey friends of Texas Midwives! We need your help!!!

On Wednesday June 17th at 10:00AM TDLR (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the department that issues midwifery licenses in Texas) will hold their next Advisory Board Meeting. The meeting is being held exclusively by teleconference and will be able to be viewed publically on the TDLR YouTube page.

What TDLR needs is to hear from the public regarding midwives PRIOR TO THIS MEETING. You can send written comments ahead of time by email to [email protected]

A sample email:
" I am (name) living in (town, county) writing today about my care with a licensed midwife. I have had ( number of births) with a midwife. (Feel free to share some general information about your experiences, versus detailed birth stories). I value the professionalism and quality of care I received that allowed me to be safe, well cared for and respected in my birth choices. I want this access to continue. Please continue to follow the guidance of the midwives on the advisory board and the state midwife organization in the ongoing regulation and support of licensed midwifery in Texas. "

Your comments will not be read live, but they have a lot of influence and ARE being noticed by TDLR leadership! Please take a minute to tell them how much your midwives mean to you.

Let me know in the comments that you emailed, and stay tuned for more updates on how to support licenced midwifery in Texas!

Baby sister made her much awaited debut just minutes before her siblings started waking up for the day. It was the sweetest moment to see them each get their own time to see her as they woke up and trickled in! 🥰

Mama’s heaviest baby to date, delivered into her Dad’s hands and straight to skin to skin! Family centered care is always my goal and makes for such beautiful moments💖
