Chemi on the Mat Yoga saved me from burnout. Now I share the practice that helped me heal. “I finally reached the fork in the road, and I chose the path of authenticity.

I’m a yoga instructor blending movement, breath, and intention to help others reconnect—with their bodies, their peace, and their purpose on & off the mat. I don’t know what’s going to happen. But I feel good!”- India Arie, 2007

Okay… I can finally say it: I was featured in a magazine. 🥹🧡

Seeing my story in print still feels a little surreal.

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to sit down with Health Monitor Network to talk about my experience living with Sjögren’s — from the symptoms that started years ago, to navigating work, stress & chronic illness, to eventually finding my way to yoga and learning how to build a life that works with my body instead of constantly fighting against it.

And somewhere along the way… that conversation turned into my first-ever magazine feature. 🥹

This was also my first professional editorial shoot, so please believe I learned some things 😂 — including the fact that I should’ve taken WAY more BTS footage because Martinez was such a cute backdrop. 📍

But more than anything, I’m grateful.

Grateful that I get to share my story. Grateful that something I once struggled through privately can now help someone else feel a little more seen. And grateful for every opportunity that continues to remind me that changing the way your life looks doesn’t mean you’ve stopped living it.

Sometimes taking back control looks like slowing down.
Sometimes it looks like setting boundaries.
Sometimes it looks like changing direction entirely.

And sometimes it looks like seeing your story printed in a magazine. 🧡

Thank you to Health Monitor Network for allowing me to share mine.

The issue is available to download for free — I’ll put the link in my bio + Stories if you’d like to read the full feature. 🦋

PS: And yes… there are MANY more photos from this shoot that didn’t make the magazine. 👀 Consider this their official debut. 😂

This week, we lost Reverend Jesse Jackson who once declared:

“I am somebody.”

Not as ego nor performance. But as affirmation.

Those words echo beyond politics. They echo in classrooms. In voting booths. In studios. On mats.

Black wellness is not separate from Black liberation.
It is a continuation of it.

When I move, I carry the prayers, the protests, the perseverance of those who came before me.

Their courage lives in my breath.
Their dignity lives in my posture.
Their affirmation lives in my “I am.”

May we remember:
We are not starting from scratch.
We are walking in legacy.

I am proud. I am rooted. I am somebody.

& so are you. ✨✊🏾🧡

We reset. Now we tend.

“Tend With Intention” is my spring intention-setting workshop designed to help you nurture what you planted this season— or courageously adjust what didn’t grow.

This isn’t just journaling. && it’s not just yoga.

It’s an intentionally woven experience where we’ll move, reflect, breathe, write, & recalibrate— all in rhythm with each other.

On Saturday, March 14th (12–3 PM at ), we’ll:

🌿 Move through a guided, accessible yoga flow
🌿 Journal + reflect between movement segments
🌿 Regulate the nervous system through breathwork
🌿 Plant something tangible together to symbolize what you’re growing next

Because not everything blossoms on the 1st try.
And that doesn’t mean it wasn’t meant for you.

If you attended Reset With Intention— this builds on it! If you didn’t— this workshop stands fully on its own.

Sometimes growth means nurturing. Sometimes growth means cutting cords. Both are powerful.

Spots are limited! Reserve yours via the link in bio or scan the QR code.

Let’s tend what’s ready to rise. 🌱

Built by Black history. Grounded in breath. Guided by love. 🧡

I don’t just teach yoga.
I embody generations of resilience, brilliance, & strength.

As a Black woman in healthcare & wellness, I know representation isn’t just aesthetic— it’s necessary.

In spaces where our stories are overlooked,
where history is rewritten,
where stress & inflammation disproportionately impact our communities…

Showing up matters.

Teaching breathwork matters. Practicing self-regulation matters. Loving ourselves out loud matters.

This weekend is about love. & self-love is revolutionary.

When I step on this mat, I’m not just moving my body— I’m honoring those who made it possible for me to stand here at all.

Black history isn’t behind us. It’s breathing through us.

✨🖤🧡✨✌🏾✊🏾

Things ChatGPT told me to eat that actually turned out pretty good 🥣🥑

I’m not perfect, & my diet isn’t either. Some days are cleaner than others— work, travel, social plans, cravings… it happens.

But right now, I’m committed to eating in a way that supports my gut, reduces inflammation, & helps my body feel more regulated overall.

For me, that looks like choosing fresh, simple foods, making swaps when I can, & learning what my body tolerates best— about 75% of the time.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s sustainability.
And honestly? This hasn’t been as hard (or as bland) as I thought— it just takes intention, creativity, & a little curiosity.

A breath-led practice doesn’t come from trying harder—
it comes from listening longer.

You don’t need to control your breath to work with it.
With time, repetition, & patience, breath begins to support movement naturally. This is how regulation, strength, & trust are built— without forcing your body into something it’s not ready for.

Learning your body’s rhythm takes time — & space to explore it.

✨This is the work— & it’s enough.

In honor of Black History Month— not just celebrating in quotes, but honoring actual paths & complex lives.

I am a Black pharmacist— representing a profession where Black clinicians are still a small minority.

I am a Black woman teaching yoga— a space where representation is still needed.

&& I live with autoimmune disease (Sjögrens), a category of conditions that disproportionately impacts Black women & often goes under-recognized.

This journey isn’t about perfection or visibility alone— it’s about being seen in all of it.

Real bodies, real health stories, & real healing belong here.

So this month, and every month: we honor, we heal, we show up. ✊🏾🖤

Sometimes my practice doesn’t start with movement—
it starts with a conversation.

On the days my body feels heavy, my brain feels foggy, or motivation is low,
I talk to myself the same way I talk to my students:

✨ You don’t have to do it perfectly
✨ You don’t have to do it for long
✨ You just have to begin

Intentions aren’t about forcing energy you don’t have.
They’re about gently guiding yourself toward what you know will help.

Five-pointed star.
Feet grounded.
Breath steady.
A reminder that showing up— even tired — still counts.
