HYPERMOBILITY ISN’T ALWAYS WHAT YOU THINK.
When people hear hypermobility, they usually think of joints that bend too far.
But for people with Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) or Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD), there can be a whole list of symptoms that have nothing to do with how flexible you are.
Some of the lesser-known symptoms can include:
• Chronic pain — especially in the neck, shoulders and upper back
• Difficulty regulating body temperature
• Pelvic pain or pelvic floor dysfunction
• Heavy or painful periods
• Constant joint clicking and popping
• TMJ pain, instability or subluxation
• Headaches and migraines
• Sensory sensitivities
• Chronic fatigue and feeling completely wiped out
• Feeling like your body is constantly working harder than it should
And this is exactly why hypermobility disorders can be so misunderstood.
You can look completely healthy on the outside while your body is working overtime just to stay stable.
For me, strength training has been one of the most important pieces of managing my body. Building muscle and stability can make a HUGE difference when your joints need extra support.
Hypermobility isn’t just about being “bendy.”
Sometimes it’s about learning how to build a stronger, more stable body around a body that moves differently.
If you have hEDS or HSD, what symptom surprised you the most?
