Dr. Lynda Dean-Duru has practiced pediatric dentistry for more than 20 years and is a member of the Academy of Laser Dentistry, where she was an Advanced Proficiency Certification Candidate. Tongue, lip and cheek releases are done by laser at Ashburn Children’s Dentistry resulting in very little bleeding, very little discomfort after the procedure and doesn’t require sutures!

Children's teeth are still developing and pulp and root are critical for this. We don't want to get to the point where we need to perform "baby root canal" (pulpotomy) and especially NOT a root canal.
The procedure can be a scary event, especially for the parents. We want to make sure that we are conservative about when to perform this procedure. If it has to be performed, we want to make it as comfortable and easy as possible. This is done through laser pediatric pulpotomy.

In dentistry it has been commonplace that if the pulp, where the nerves are in the tooth, becomes infected and irritated, a root canal is the only effective choice. However, today's research indicates that with earlier detection a pulpotomy may be just as effective. Saving more of the roots and tooth!
