What do you do and who do you turn to when you’re not ok AND choose to no longer pretend to be so others feel more comfortable?

I pray you have people who are safe to be real and raw with - even when those in close proximity cannot handle it. Who can compassionately sit with you in your grief and suffering (even when there’s so much to be thankful for)! Even when there’s nothing they can do to help you fix anything!

It’s been 6 weeks now since my ER visit. Last night felt 95% like that ER visit.

Today, I cancelled a coffee and pumpkin cheescake date with a dear friend after a fitful night’s sleep. But then still tried to “muscle through” my PT exercises but my arm SCREAMED “NO! Nope nope and and aw, H.E. 🏒🏒 NOPE … and get yourself back in bed for the rest of the day.”

I listened, put on my IF/TENS unit … and then I doom scrolled FB for a little bit. I knew I SHOULD do something better with my time. Instead, I started thinking about how much I still cannot do and the future. How much help I’m going to need long term just to keep up with my healthy nutritional needs when no one in my household eats like me if this goes on longer than a couple more weeks. Much less house chores (which is more than just cleaning, am I right?). and my non-profit work. Naturally, I began worrying , which never leads to good things.

So, I pulled out my “hard and holy times” toolkit: my journal, my Bible, and my paint pens. But couldn’t muster to open them.

I wanted to MOVE dang it! Hiking and yoga are my other go to’s, but I physically can’t.

So I phoned the friend I was supposed to meet this AM, someone who can sit with me in my -ish without fixing it, “I’m not ok” … again, I shared with her through my first tears of the day. After several minutes reminding me it’s ok to not be ok … and it’s ok to even be angry if God doesn’t heal me or take away my pain in my time frame. He can handle it allllll when we’re real and raw.

I was reMINDed… God knows my heart anyway, even when I can’t open His Word or recite a verse. He also knows my needs (now and in the future) better than I possibly can.

So what could I do? I made some anti-inflammatory turmeric tea (a birthday present from a week ago) and I’m sharing this little encouragement with you as I drink my tea and capture the goodness of this moment - without fret - and hope it brings encouragement to someone else struggling with what they cannot do today. Maybe all you can do is make a cup of tea, too.

I hope you have a friend who can sit with you on the phone, too. But EVEN IF YOU DON’T … You’re NOT alone. You are seen, known, loved, and held by God - always. Just like it says in my tea cup. Psalm 139 and Isaiah 43.

I want to take a moment to clarify my disappointment and discouragement on myself.

I have spent YEARS in a spirit, mind, and body journey to heal from people pleasing perfectionism where I believed my worth and good enoughness was defined by my performance and my self sufficiency.

I posted yesterday in my prior post that I was disappointed and discouraged. That part was actually in reference to being disappointed and discouraged by how easily I backslid with things that were said and implied to others I love and myself by someone I deeply care for who has not done that healing work (yet).

Healing is a journey. Feeling what we feel and Recognizing what we feel IS a first step to healing. And I shared those feelings with great honesty because I always want to be authentic. Real and raw … you can even be a coach who’s done a LOT of inner healing work, and still find yourself wrestling with things you thought you’d never have to deal with again … but, we are human, too.

Here’s the thing though … I’m thankful even more today than yesterday, that I have friends and WHS “ FB followers” who check on me, who reMIND me whose I am and who I am, and who take a chance of offending me to call out the lies I may be believing and who point me back to Jesus and His Truth about me!! That my worth does not depend on what I do … or don’t do!

And my greatest hope, is that I (and anyone who serves with and through WHS), always and forever, do the same for all whom we serve.

WHS is all about breaking the chains of lies we’ve believed that bind spirits, minds, and bodies in dis-ease (shame, anxiety, depression, etc) that often becomes chronic pain and disease so that we may positively impact generations to come … in our own lives and in our family’s and community’s lives.

Here’s what I know. We don’t go through what we go through just for our own sake … it’s also so that we may learn and pass it on so that it may help others.

Feeling FRY-day or FriYAY today?

Or if you’re like me, you forgot what day it was altogether! 😅

I spun some mental wheels today as I tried to figure out what I can offer people (my family, my friends, our WHS supporters like you) during this time of healing my spine and as I did so I, honestly, began to feel a wee bit “useless.”

So, I folded a basket of clothes- put what I could away, switched clothes from the washer to the dryer, and put another load into the washer. And now I’m ALREADY tired … weak … and sore. 🥱

3 things:
I’m disappointed AND I’m thankful AND I’m prayerful.

1) I’m honestly disappointed in my little performance and how little I accomplished AND especially how little it takes to discourage/disappoint me, myself, and I

At the same time…

2) I’m beyond thankful and recognize (prolly not even fully) what a blessing it is that I don’t HAVE to work to make ends meet and can rest as needed.

3) I’m prayerful. I can’t imagine if I had to push through this pain (in the neck) and exhaustion to go to work to provide basic needs like food, medical, shelter, clothes, etc for myself by myself (even moreso if I had to provide for family and college) at 50 yo.

But it just occurred to me as I pondered these things - there’s something I CAN do - I’m praying for those who feel like (even if they don’t) and those who (quite literally) HAVE to work to provide the necessary essentials for their families. Who HAVE to push through the pain and fatigue and to live with far less than we do.

Now, I’m asking … sincerely …

How can I pray for you, specifically?

It’s the most useful thing I CAN do right now. I hope you’ll comment below or DM me.

You’re not alone.
You are loved, seen, heard, and known. I wish I could do more … and hopefully, one day I can.

I definitely don’t lead retreats into the Wild like Bear G, BUT we still see the stripping away of performance by day 2-3.

Creation was designed to do that, I believe. To draw us closer to the Creator to see who we truly are and who truly matters in this life. 💜🫶🏼💜

50th Birthday post…

Thank you to all who did for being so thoughtful to reach out on my birthday. Just so happens to be my 50th! Was a pretty full day even if it only lasted 4 hours for somebody whose energy levels are not quite what they were just two months ago.

Was short and sweet. My parents came to visit… took me and hubby out to lunch and then hubby went back to work while the rest of us went on the Blue Ridge Parkway to ride around looking at leaves. Wrapped back around town to have ice cream! I was wiped out and ready for a nap … though I didn’t.

Got just enough rest to have enough energy to spend a little time with hubby this evening eating leftovers, watching a movie with some popcorn topped with nutritional yeast before I crashed again and headed to bed for the night.

It’s been a very good day. Nice and easy peasy. Today was full of peace without rushing, presence with loved ones, nature’s beauty, and joy in the simpler things. This was a perfect way to kick off my 50s and beyond.

And I’m not just celebrating 50, but also that I’ve decreased my meds, I can put on my socks and shoes without pain, and I was upright today for more than 2 hours without being reduced to writhing in pain.

Isn’t it crazy how much more beautiful the skies can become after the storm?!?

Most of my days are inside on bedrest right now, but I make a special effort to do what I can to get in nature as I am able. I know in my knower… beauty is on the other side of this storm my body is fighting. Just on the horizon.

Thank you for the prayer warriors and helpers who have stepped up and stepped in to provide meals, company, and cleaning.

Praying for a day, WHS doesn’t have to pause when I am unable to work. 🥅

Learning more lessons along this healing pathway and life journey when we cannot do and move the way we’d like to.
