Our new study calls for focused efforts to lessen persistent racial and ethnic disparities in HIV prevention and treatment in order to achieve the end of the HIV epidemic in the United States. Our study showed that compared to White non-Hispanic heterosexual active adults (HAAs), Black HAAs have a 20-fold higher HIV diagnosis rate and Hispanic HAAs have a 4-fold higher HIV diagnosis rate. This was a collaboration with CDC single-dose HIV prophylaxis, taken either immediately before or after sex. Macaque modeling studies demonstrated high biological efficacy, while #AMIS survey data showed willingness to use this regimen among #MSM. This work provides evidence that on-demand #PrEP/PEP is a promising #HIV prevention strategy and supports future clinical trials to determine efficacy in humans.

Using data from #AMIS, this analysis found that there is a high prevalence of childhood trauma, such as abuse or neglect, among MSM and exposure to these events was associated with higher illicit substance use, STI testing and condomless anal intercourse. These findings support the inclusion of trauma-informed care for adult MSM accessing HIV and STI related services.findings support the inclusion of trauma-informed care for adult MSM accessing HIV and STI related services.
