Users of these substances are more prone to breakthrough COVID-19 cases — Deseret News

Individuals who smoke and/or use substances are more susceptible to breakthrough COVID-19 infections than individuals who do not smoke and/or use substances, according to a new study just published in World Psychiatry.
What are YOU doing to protect the individuals you serve from COVID-19? Continuing to follow CDC guidelines while assisting individuals in becoming vaccinated is critical, and they are ethical obligations of certified addiction and recovery professionals.

A new study suggests that smokers, ma*****na and substance users are more prone to get breakthrough COVID-19 cases.

Op-Ed: Bridging the divide between mental health care and addiction treatment — Los Angeles Times

One diagnosis can eclipse another, leading to a skewed approach. Integrating care and cross-training professionals is critical. The ADACBGA is committed to continuing our current focus on policy revisions and credentialing standards that promote a competent addiction counseling and recovery workforce.

It is critical that addiction counselors demonstrate core competencies and acquire clinical expertise regarding substance use and other process disorders.

It is equally critical that addiction counselors who are not also licensed in a Behavioral Health field with scope of practice that includes mental disorders and grants diagnostic authority (social work, professional counseling, marriage & family therapy, clinical psychology) receive education and training related to co-occurring mental disorders and psychopathology, alongside a firm understanding of the appropriate application of this knowledge as an addiction counselor.

Although individuals who hold the CADC-II or CAADC from the ADACBGA have an independent scope of practice specific to the provision of addiction counseling in the State of Georgia, they do not have legal diagnostic authority or a legal scope of practice to treat mental disorders.

The ADACBGA is currently exploring potential strategies to ensure certified addiction and recovery professionals in Georgia are gaining critical knowledge regarding mental disorders and psychopathology while utilizing it within the addiction counselor’s scope of practice in appropriate ways.

One diagnosis can eclipse another, leading to a skewed approach. Integrating care and cross-training professionals shows promise.

Americans are using alcohol to cope with pandemic stress: Nearly 1 in 5 report 'heavy drinking' — USA TODAY

A recent survey indicates that as many as 1 in 5 adults across the United States are now consuming potentially problematic amounts of alcohol every day as stress and uncertainty during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is once again on the rise.

Ensuring a competent and ethically-sound addiction counseling and recovery support profession across the State of Georgia has never been more critical. At the ADACBGA, we are intent on continuing to do just that.

More than 18 months into the pandemic, about 17% of respondents reported "heavy drinking" in the past 30 days, a new survey finds.

Experts Predict What Flu Season Will Be Like This Year — HuffPost

“Getting an annual flu shot is the single most effective way to protect yourself from the flu,” Moore said. “A flu shot will not protect against COVID-19, but it has many other important benefits, including reducing severe flu illness and hospitalization, which can help lessen the burden on the health care system during the pandemic.”

How bad will it be? How can you tell influenza apart from COVID? When should you get the vaccine? Here's what to know.

A Proclamation on Overdose Awareness Week, 2021 | The White House

Today, President Joe Biden issued a Presidential Proclamation recognizing next week as #OverdoseAwarenessWeek – a time to honor the lives lost to the overdose epidemic and recommit to preventing overdoses and supporting individuals with substance use disorder.

The overdose epidemic has taken a toll on far too many Americans and their loved ones.  Addiction is a disease that touches families in every community, including my own.  The epidemic is national, but the impact is personal.  It is personal to the millions who confront substance use disorder eve...

The Psychology of Conspiracy Theories During COVID-19 - The TMHR

“The human mind tends to use short cuts to simplify information through cognitive biases and heuristics. By preferring simple information, and by using as little mental effort as possible, we tend to accept a given explanation, if it satisfies our needs. Conspiracies provide a very simplistic explanation of situations that are in fact very complex and very difficult to understand otherwise.”

#GetVaccinated if you haven’t already! A&D Counselors have an ethical obligation to protect the vulnerable population we serve, and we are duty bound to support evidence based practices.

The U.S. level of community transmission is high. COVID-19 cases are increasing in most parts of the country. The 7-day average of daily new cases is 130,121. This is 13.2% higher than the previous 7-day period, and 1,016.8% higher than the lowest daily average in June 2021. Take actions to protect yourself and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

If you aren’t vaccinated:

✅ Get vaccinated.
😷 Wear a mask over your nose & mouth.
↔ Stay at least 6 feet from others.
🚫 Avoid crowds & poorly ventilated spaces.
🖐 Wash your hands often.

Everyone—even vaccinated people—in areas with a substantial or high level of community transmission should wear a mask indoors in public. More: https://bit.ly/2Hw1EZZ

After 50 Years Of The War On Drugs, 'What Good Is It Doing For Us?'

“’Over the last 50 years, we've unfortunately seen the 'War on Drugs' be used as an excuse to declare war on people of color, on poor Americans and so many other marginalized groups,’ said New York Attorney General Letitia James in a statement sent to NPR.”

President Nixon called for an "all-out offensive" against drugs and addiction. The U.S. is now rethinking policies that led to mass incarceration and shattered families while drug deaths kept rising.

Our Story

ADACBGA was formed in 1992 to offer certification to Substance Use Counselors and Clinical Supervisors. We are based on the standards and methods offered by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (IC&RC), a multi-state and international body organized to promote uniform professional standards and quality for the substance use counseling profession, giving the profession greater visibility in the U.S. and abroad. As a result of ADACBGA’s membership in IC&RC, professionals credentialed by our board may relocate to other states, the military, and other countries, reciprocating their credential(s) with minimum effort and expense.

Mission

Our mission is to protect the public through the provision of competency-based credentials that will assure quality care for those affected by substance use disorders.

The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Certification Board of Georgia, Inc., is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit body.

I have several finished online courses that I would like to become approved CEUs. I've read on your site about paying to be an instructor. But honestly, I don't want to waste money if it doesn't fly. Any suggestions? I was thinking of partnering with an approved instructor -if that would work? If so, anyone interested?
