It's and you may be surprised to learn that sugar does not actually harm your teeth. What does cause tooth decay and cavities? The sugar left on your teeth attracts harmful bacteria and that bacteria is what causes plaque to form.
So while we aren't saying you aren't allowed to indulge from time to time (you've seen our cakes photos, right? 😅), it's recommended that you brush or use mouthwash after eating sugary foods, especially chewy candy or even dried fruit that linger longer in your mouth. And if those are not an option, even chewing sugar-free gum can help!

Last week we had a blast at our team holiday party and BIG reveal for our Secret Santa gift exchange. We played a fun game and everyone had to guess their Secret Santa. Then we took turns tricking each other as the presents were passed out! Fun was had by all and we loved celebrating as an HMDC family.
But things were not as great for sad little kidnapped Jingles... Who is gonna pay his ransom and save him before Christmas?

And we also strive to develop strong relationships with our patients, because maintaining oral health is a partnership and we have to work together. We had a blast at the Dentistry for the Developmentally Disabled Dental Dash 5K AND we even won some awards! Dr. John Uetsuki was honored for 2nd Largest Team Participation, Alex, Kayley and Izumi all got 1st Place in their age categories and our patient Chris took 2nd Place in his age category.
Thank you to all that participated including, Hygienists Hannah, Connie and Alanna, Dental Assistants Miranda, Alex and Roshnie, and our Front Admin Team of Andrea, Kierra, Izumi and Renee. We also had a few spouses and kids join us, along with one of our former doctors and fiance.
An additional big thank you to all that supported us! We were so thrilled to be helping such a great cause.
We've been training for months and the big race is this Saturday, November 5! The Dental Dash at Dawn 5K is organized by Dentistry for the Developmentally Disabled to raise funds to provide dental care for more than 4,800 developmentally disabled patients.

Dr. Uetsuki recently celebrated his 25 year dental class reunion for Medical College of Georgia (now known as Augusta University). It was a wonderful fall weekend in North Georgia with a special dinner at a classmate's farm near Hiawassee. Cheers to the class of 1997!

September is Office Manager Appreciation Month and our own Office Manager Andrea was awarded Office Manager of the Year by ProSites, Inc..
