The Gardening For Peace Program

The Gardening For Peace Program The mission of the Gardening For Peace Program is to co-create personal and planetary wellness with healing arts, nature's wisdom and community service.

The overriding mission of the Gardening For Peace program is to increase personal and planetary wellness. There are three main areas of focus. 1.) TENDING OUR INNER GARDEN: This focus area is based on the belief that world peace begins at home, within the heart of each one of us. Healing art modalities are offered to help individuals connect with their inner source of healing, wisdom and power, resulting in a deeper sense of peace and unity with all of life. Wellness classes, retreats, meditation, T’ai Chi, Qigong, and transformational therapy are some of the offerings provided. 2.) SERVICE PROGRAMS: Providing opportunities for people of all ages to be in service to others is an integral part of the Gardening For Peace programs. The importance of giving to others is a core value, as it not only lifts the spirits of the recipient, but increases the sense of well-being for the giver as well. Community gardening programs and the Flowers on Wheels program are examples of this focus area. 3.) CO-CREATION WITH NATURE: Deepening our connection with the natural world and learning how to listen to the wisdom nature has to offer us is another priority of the Gardening For Peace programs. Instructions on how to still the mind and receive the “soul gifts of the seasons” are taught in a variety of formats, such as meditation and writing classes; wellness retreats, Garden Teas and horticulture therapy.

"The world will change for the better when people decide they are sick and tired of being sick and tired of the way the world is, and decide to change themselves." (Sidney Madwed)

The "Non Violent Communication" techniques that Marshall Rosenberg so beautifully embodied and skillfully taught are some of the most helpful communication tools I've ever studied. Just got this book out again as I was feeling the need to brush up my skills during these chaotic times.

Oh to have everyone, especially our political leaders, learn these simple ways of thinking and communicating that help us relate to each other in ways that connect us with the divinity within us all.
This, instead of all the division in our world, is my heart's desire.

I highly recommend this book if you haven't read it yet. It underscores Rumi's philosophy as well:

"Out beyond ideas of right doing and wrong doing there is a field. I'll meet you there."

Unity consciousness starts at home, with ourselves. We naturally embrace others more when we have learned how to love, forgive and accept all parts of ourselves and our past. Not an easy task for sure, but the more we remember our true nature and call upon the love that we are to help us, the easier it is to heal our egoic wounds. It's when we reject ourselves that we feel separate from others. Sure been true for me. ❤️

Much more than a simple ecology, ecosophy is a wisdom-spirituality of the earth. ‘The new balance’ is not so much between man and Earth, but between matter and spirit, between spatio-temporality and consciousness. Ecosophy is not simply a ‘science of the earth’ (ecology) and even ‘wisdom on earth,’ but the ‘wisdom of the earth itself’ that occurs when [humanity] knows how to listen with love.

Happiness is having a niece, Dian Boyd, who, among many other wonderful things, is very crafty and has awesome art project ideas. I asked her what she had been up to lately and she said she was painting rocks with uplifting messages and leaving them along the path on her walks.

Aha .. a lightbulb immediately came on! Ty and I go on walks everyday and this would be a totally doable way for us to still follow social distancing etiquette and help spread goodwill as well. Hence, the “Heart Rock Pandemic Peace Project” was born! Join us if you’d like. It’s already brought us so much joy and we’re just getting started. Thank you, Dian ❤️

02/03/2020

So here’s my truth about my inner process to create more peace in my heart this morning:

I woke up with some “very not fun” lower back pain and felt my muscles spasm when I tried to walk. I was also aware of being angry at my husband, who has Parkinson’s Disease, for his dependence on me for almost everything. I then felt guilty for even having these feelings because he’s such a great guy and never complains about anything. Needless to say, I went straight to hell in about 5 minutes ... my world felt dark and narrow, with no way out. Again, NO fun.

The flip side of all this is that I’ve worked on myself for so long (I’m old) that I have a pretty large treasure chest of inner resources to deal with myself and get out of hell ... way too many to share them all here.

Briefly, this is what I did, to which Ty (husband) can attest: I honored my feelings and shared them with Ty as best I could; I prayed; listened to a couple short guided meditations to help clear my heavy energy and align with my higher self and then put on some beautiful music to stretch and move my body to. .

I gradually shifted my energy from being in a dark, hell hole of resentment, to feeling blessed in a little over an hour. Oh, and I took a couple Tylenol and a muscle relaxant to start with to help pave the way.

As I write this I’m deeply grateful that my heart and body feel much lighter and I’m back in love with love and the present moment. I took the time to share all this with you, dear friends, because it is my prayer that anything I share might somehow lift the hearts of those who read my words. I sincerely care about the creation of peace in the heart of us all and in the hearts of all creatures great and small on this beautiful, blue planet we call home.

“If we want there to be peace in the world, then we have to take responsibility when our own hearts & minds harden & close. We have to be brave enough to soften what is rigid, to find the soft spot & stay with it. We have to have that kind of courage and take that kind of responsibility. That's true spiritual warriorship. That's the true practice of peace."

All The Crazy Places Plastic Has Ended Up This Year

I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to not use plastic bags at all anymore, not even for trash. Paper grocery bags have totally replaced the kitchen trash bags I used to think I had to have.

It truly makes my heart happy to change old habitual buying habits into new ones that support the planet and all creatures, great and small. ♥️🌎
