Edgefield County EMS is excited to announce we are live with Flight Vector provided by Augusta University Aircare. We are one of the first 911 services in the region to utilize this technology.
This will allow EMS providers to make a request for air medical services from the scene. The app allows providers to select a LZ and communicate with the flight crew directly. The whole process takes less than a minute to complete and allows our providers to continue providing care.

Augusta University Health System, Wellstar Health System announce letter of intent for statewide health care partnership

Augusta University Health System (AUHS) has signed a letter of intent with Wellstar Health System to form an innovative new partnership that would expand Augusta University’s educational and research missions and allow Wellstar Health System to create a broader affiliation with the university’s Medical College of Georgia (MCG) as AUHS joins the Wellstar Health System.

The potential partnership is the culmination of a thoughtful and deliberate process begun in 2019 by AUHS, its governing board and Augusta University to strategically grow MCG while expanding and improving both patient care and Georgians’ access to health care services across the state.

The proposed partnership would innovate clinical care, training and research while adopting a successful model of bringing together community-based health systems and academic medical centers such as MCG and its teaching hospitals. MCG and Augusta University are part of the University System of Georgia (USG), and MCG serves as the only public medical school in the state.

“AUHS, Augusta University and the Wellstar Health System have a shared mission to solve Georgia’s health care challenges,” USG Chancellor Sonny Perdue said. “By joining forces and working together, we can leverage Wellstar’s clinical platform and leading-edge systems to support patients while providing more opportunities for students to learn, train and care for residents in local communities across Georgia.”

Thank you to EVERYONE for your support during the 22nd Annual iHeartMedia Cares for Kids Radiothon! With your help, we raised an astounding $260,000! This holiday season, we are incredibly grateful for your generosity. Your support means so much to every kid at the Children's Hospital of Georgia and will allow us to keep making miracles happen.

It’s day TWO of our 22nd annual iHeartMedia Cares for Kids Radiothon! This morning we are shopping for two vein finders and need your help to make it happen. Transilluminator Vein Finders are important because they help illuminate veins to insert IVs into the tiniest of patients. With more than 500 babies coming through the NICU each year and thousands of babies served throughout the hospital annually, these vein finders are incredibly important. At $1,500 each, we need 16 Miracle Makers to help make this happen.

To give: visit caresforkidsradiothon.com, text CHOG to 51555 or call 1-866-412-KIDS!

It's Giving Tuesday! We believe that no student should have to choose between food and learning. The goal of the Open Paws Food Pantry at Augusta University is to serve as emergency food relief for AU students experiencing food insecurity. As students navigate the end of the fall semester and think ahead to final exams, the need for supporting them is critical. For the cost of your morning latte or a subscription to Spotify or Apple Music, you could help students in need. $7.00 represents the cost of a nutritious meal, and $50.00 could feed a student for a week! Or check out the gift registry below to purchase nutrition and personal care items that students need the most.

Compared with students who have reliable access to enough food, students who are food insecure experience significantly higher rates of depression, loneliness and anxiety. They also have lower self-esteem and lower grade-point averages and are more likely to withdraw from the university before earning their degrees. A new, nationally representative study of more than 1,500 college students found that students who lacked consistent access to enough food were 43% less likely to graduate than their food-secure p*ers, and 61% less likely to get an advanced degree, like a master’s or doctorate, in the years that followed.

Sleep Technologist first in Georgia to earn certification for sleep apnea device

“For people with sleep apnea, it’s a struggle for them to sleep. They can’t breathe. They’re oxygen-starved and sleep-deprived, and that problem just compounds every night that they try to go to sleep,” said Penny Mehaffey, Lead Polysomnographic Technologist at Augusta University Health. “That’s one of the sad things about it – sleep apnea is something that can be treated fairly easily.”

Mehaffey recently received the Inspire Care Pathway Certification, an advanced certification for an implant that is a fairly new alternative to Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. She is the only polysomnographic technologist in Georgia to have earned this certification.

About 85% of Americans are living with sleep apnea, a condition in which breathing obstruction interrupts sleep. Not only can lack of sleep cause fatigue and contribute to a poor quality of life, but it can also have an adverse effect on others. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CD

Like many busy women who have families and careers, Trish Patrick often puts herself last. Days are spent working with physicians and helping Augusta University Health grow its reach as a physician liaison. Evenings are often spent with her husband at one of their two sons’ baseball games.

She knew at her age, it was time to start getting annual mammograms, but kept telling herself she would do it later. For five years, she put it off. Until one day in December 2021, her doctor wouldn’t let her put it off anymore. She finally made time to get her mammogram.
