In other health news, 🤒 Measles Update: Buncombe County Health Dept has reported a measles exposure risk from an out-of-state traveller who tested positive for measles. Anyone visiting Holiday Inn Express, 435 Smokey Park Highway, Asheville, between 1am and 10:30 am on August 26th may have been exposed.
Measles symptoms usually begin 7 to 14 days after exposure. Symptoms begin with high fever, red, watery eyes, runny nose, and a cough. Two or three days after symptoms begin, tiny white spots (Koplik spots) might be noted in the mouth. The rash usually begins 3 to 5 days after symptoms start.
If your child appears ill and has a high fever, please keep them home and away from other children. Some children come through measles easily, but some do not, and the risks can include death. Children with compromised nutrition and fewer resources are at higher risk for serious outcomes. Please remember that the health of every child matters. We can keep our entire community safer by quarantining sick children.
See the link below for more information on measles, the exposure last week, and if you want, how to get vaccinated.
