You can love your baby with your whole heart and still miss who you were before. 🤍

Both of those feelings can live in you at the same time. Missing your old routines, your freedom, your sleep, or just the version of you who had a minute to herself doesn’t mean you love your baby any less. It means you’re human, and you’re in the middle of a really big transition.

Motherhood changes so much, so fast. It’s okay to grieve parts of your old life while you fall in love with the new one.

If this feels familiar, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to sort through it by yourself. 💛

Save this for the days you need the reminder, and share it with a mama who might need it too.

Hi, I’m Lisa, the founder of Beyond Motherhood Long Island in Bay Shore.

I opened this space because I needed it and couldn’t find it: a real place on Long Island where moms can be honest about how hard this season is, without judgment. To receive mental peace and clarity through peer support - and know that I’m not alone.

If any part of my story sounds like yours, I would love to meet you. Become a member at the link in our bio 💚✨

🤍 Navigating pregnancy and postpartum can bring emotional challenges that aren’t always talked about. But no woman deserves to navigate them alone.

Beyond Motherhood is proud to collaborate with Long Island Waves of Hope for a special educational discussion focused on maternal mental health, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), and the emotional challenges women may experience during pregnancy and after welcoming a baby.

Together, we’re creating a space for education, honest conversations, connection, and understanding. Because maternal mental health deserves just as much attention as physical health. 💜

PMAD stands for perinatal mood and anxiety disorder. It is an umbrella term for the depression, anxiety and overwhelm that can show up during pregnancy or in the year after birth.

It is not a character flaw. It is not a sign you are a bad mom. It is common, and it is treatable.

Beyond Motherhood is a peer support space on Long Island built for exactly this season. Save this post for yourself or a friend who needs it.

If you are struggling right now, call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262), free and confidential, 24/7.

There was a time when I was the mom who desperately needed someone to tell me I wasn’t alone. 🤍

My journey into motherhood looked nothing like I imagined. After experiencing postpartum anxiety, OCD, depression, and birth trauma, I learned firsthand just how overwhelming and isolating the postpartum period can feel.

I was one in five women who experienced a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder, and at the time, I didn’t realize how many other mothers were struggling alongside me.

What I didn’t know then was that one day, my own experience would give me the opportunity to advocate for other women navigating the same struggles.

I am incredibly grateful to Newsday TV • Long Island News for the opportunity to share my story and speak about the importance of maternal mental health and Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs).

These conversations matter. PMADs affect so many women, yet far too many continue to struggle in silence, often feeling ashamed, misunderstood, or afraid to ask for help.

Beyond Motherhood was born from my own journey and the belief that no woman should have to navigate hers alone.

If sharing my story helps even one mother feel seen, understood, or empowered to reach out for support, then every vulnerable conversation is worth having.

We need to keep talking about maternal mental health, challenging the stigma, and reminding women that struggling does not define the kind of mother they are.

Because there is no one right way to experience motherhood. And no mother should have to do it alone. 🤍

If there’s one word I really dislike, it’s “should.”

And if you’ve ever walked through the doors of Beyond Motherhood, you’ve probably heard me say that.

“I should be happier.”
“I should be enjoying this more.”
“I should have it all together.”
“I should be a better mom.”

Who decided what motherhood should look like anyway?

Somewhere along the way, society created this picture of the perfect mother. And when our experiences don’t fit that picture, we start questioning ourselves.

Your experience doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s to be valid.

It’s time we stop telling mothers who they should be and start supporting them exactly where they are. 🤍

That’s what Beyond Motherhood is all about.

We spend months preparing for a baby, but somehow the emotional side of becoming a mom barely makes the checklist.

The lack of preparation and conversation around postpartum mental health is something worth talking about.

Because preparing for a baby should also mean preparing to support the mom. 🤍

October at Beyond Motherhood! 🍂🤍

At the heart of Beyond Motherhood is our mission to support women navigating perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), including postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, and other emotional challenges that can arise during pregnancy and after having a baby.

From our peer support groups (with child watch included!) to baby yoga, Pilates, and some fun fall events, there’s something to look forward to all month long.

And we’re especially excited for our October 24th collaborations with Gianna and The LI Mom Calendar | Mom + Little Events on Long Island .
