Minnesota is asking for your input, and your voice matters.

If you are blind or have low vision, or you care for someone who is, State Services for the Blind (SSB) is updating the rules that guide two of its departments: workforce development (vocational rehabilitation) and senior services. Before those rules change, SSB wants to hear from the people they affect most.

Here is how to share your thoughts:

1. Visit the public comment page from the Minnesota Office of Administrative Hearings.
2. Look for the heading "Request for Comment." It lists possible topics, but you are welcome to comment on anything that matters to you.
3. Follow the link under "topic" to submit. You will need to create a log-in ID and password first.
4. Please send your comment by December 18, 2026.

Questions? Contact Courtney Wanek at [email protected].

World Sight Day is a reminder of just how much good eye care changes lives. But for people living with macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, or other vision loss, regular eye care sometimes reaches its limit. That does not mean options run out. Dr. Chris Palmer helps people make the most of the vision they still have, so they can keep reading, watching TV, and doing the things they love. Call 612-729-3030 for a free low vision phone consultation.

Healthy aging isn't just about physical health, it's about staying connected to the life you love. 💙

September is Healthy Aging Month, and Dr. Chris Palmer of Low Vision Restoration is sharing why vision deserves a place in that conversation. Conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy become more common with age, and they can make reading, driving, and recognizing faces harder.

The good news? Low vision care doesn't restore vision to what it was years ago, but it can help you make the most of the vision you have, so you can keep doing the things that matter most.

What a Saturday! 🎉

Our Low Vision Restoration team, "The Immaculate Degeneration Nation," hit the pavement for the Foundation Fighting Blindness Twin Cities VisionWalk, and the energy was incredible. Staff, family, and friends came together to walk in support of everyone living with vision loss and to help fund research that brings us closer to new treatments and, one day, cures.

We're so proud to be part of a community that shows up for each other like this. 💙

Here's the fun part: our team is just $450 away from reaching our $2,000 goal! If you'd like to help us cross the finish line, our fundraising page is still open for donations.

Thank you to everyone who walked, cheered, donated, or simply shared a kind word on Saturday. This is what community looks like.

What comes to mind when you hear the words “low vision”?

We asked Shawn from Minneapolis to share his perspective, and his answer highlights just how misunderstood low vision can be.

Low vision is more than needing a stronger prescription. It can affect reading, recognizing faces, watching TV, getting around, and enjoying everyday activities.

At Low Vision Restoration, Dr. Chris Palmer takes a personalized approach to helping people make the most of the vision they have. Comprehensive low vision evaluations and specialty glasses can help people find practical ways to stay active, confident, and independent.

Vision loss may change how you see the world, but it doesn’t have to stop you from living your life.

Could a new retinal implant help restore central vision lost to geographic atrophy?

PRIMA is an emerging retinal implant technology designed to provide artificial visual information by bypassing damaged photoreceptors. Clinical research has shown promising results for some people with severe central vision loss caused by geographic atrophy.

While PRIMA does not restore normal eyesight and is not yet available as a routine treatment in the U.S., it represents an exciting development in the field of vision restoration.

Dr. Chris Palmer explores how PRIMA works, what the research has shown, its current availability, and what the technology could mean for the future of low vision care.

We’re proud to be participating in the 20th Annual Twin Cities VisionWalk on September 19th at Lake Harriet Bandshell in Minneapolis!

At Low Vision Restoration, we support the VisionWalk year after year because we believe deeply in the mission of the Foundation Fighting Blindness and the hope that research brings to people living with retinal diseases.

Dr. Chris Palmer often says, “I hope this research puts me out of business.” And that’s exactly the goal: a future where fewer folks need low vision services because treatments can prevent, stop, or reverse vision loss.
