Well… I guess this makes it official. 💗

Today I picked up the mailbox key for Defying Dementia, and somehow this tiny little key feels like a really big deal.

What started as an idea—a belief that we could do better for people living with dementia and the families who love them—has grown into something bigger than I ever imagined. And now, Defying Dementia is officially my full-time gig.

We’re still supporting individuals living with cognitive change and dementia, helping caregivers, and providing meaningful cognitive care—but we’re also growing in a direction I’m incredibly excited about: prevention and proactive brain health. Helping people understand their risks, protect their brains, and take action before there’s a crisis.

No more squeezing this in around everything else. I’m officially all in.

Equal parts exciting and absolutely terrifying. 😂

A mailbox. A key. A business I believe in with my whole heart.

Time to sink or swim. And I plan on swimming. 💗

One of the biggest misconceptions about dementia is that there isn’t anything you can do.

The truth is…there is.

This month is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, and I had the opportunity to sit down with WNKY to talk about why these conversations matter so much. We talked about early warning signs, modifiable risk factors, and why waiting until a crisis happens is often the hardest path for families.

This work has become incredibly personal to me, and it’s the reason Defying Dementia exists. My hope is that we can help people stop thinking about dementia as simply a diagnosis and start thinking about brain health as something we can all be proactive about—long before there’s ever a diagnosis.

Sometimes we don’t realize we’re turning everyday conversations into memory tests.

Questions like “Do you remember?” can create pressure instead of connection.

A simple shift makes a big difference:
Instead of asking for the memory… offer the context.

That small change helps reduce anxiety, protect confidence, and keep the relationship feeling safe and supportive.

Caregiving isn’t about testing memory.
It’s about supporting the person.

You walk into a room…
…and immediately forget why you’re there 🙃
Cue the internal panic:
“Wait… is something wrong with me?”
Let me reassure you—this is actually really common.
And more importantly… it’s often fixable.
Your brain just needs an “anchor.”
Try saying what you’re about to do out loud before you move.
It sounds simple—but it works.
And if you’ve been noticing things like this more often… don’t ignore it out of fear. There’s a lot we can do to support your brain.
