Hello and Happy New Year!

A lot of people have been asking what is the best way to jumpstart their health and wellness goals in 2021 and for many this means shedding some winter (or quarantine) pounds! If you know me you know that I’m all about consistent and sustainable results even with weight goals. The goal should always be more about how you feel then the number on the scale.

With that being said one of the most important parts to sustainable weight loss is stabilizing your blood sugar! Everyone in the health and wellness industry knows the harmful effects sugar can have on the human body. Worse yet, the addictive quality of sugar makes it an even more pressing health crisis that people are battling all over the world! When you are taking in more sugar than your body knows what to do with it stores it as fat. When your blood sugar spikes and drops throughout the day your body views it as a stress which releases cortisol and leaves your adrenals constantly revving which further contributes to weight gain.

In order to help people jumpstart their goals I’m doing a free 7 day Sugar Detox Challenge! This isn’t a diet with complicated meal plans, it is a mindset shift to help you make healthier choices that result in stable blood sugar and sustainable weight loss over time. I’ll also be sharing my favorite supplements, oils and tips to rev up your metabolism in the process.

Even with all the craziness going on I am continuing to focus on helping people feel better!

We did a small beta study in October and it went really well! We will be launching a larger study with a group of amazing people to provide an incredible experience for people who want to focus on a targeted area of health and wellness. I rarely use weights with my patients!!

💪 I actually prefer resistance bands or body weight exercises and when I do use weights I usually keep them pretty light (typically under 5#)

We focus on a lot of core stabilization through Pilates based exercises because core weakness and poor posture are usually over half the problem anyway.

If you don't have a set of light weights at home you can always opt for a water bottle or even cans of soup or veggies just enough to give you some light resistance.

So many of my patients want to loose weight but they are focusing on the wrong part of their diet!!

If you are struggling with any kind of chronic pain cutting calories shouldn't be the first step to loosing weight.

Instead focus on the quality of what you eat. Choose foods that naturally reduce inflammation, provide your brain with healthy fats, and your gut with healthy probiotics. 🍎🍍🥑

When you feed your body real food over processed food more gets broken down and used and less gets stored as unhealthy fats.

Diabetic Neuropathy is something we treat often at the clinic.

Diabetic Neuropathy is caused when blood surgar/triglyceride levels stay too high in the blood for a duration of time.

When they stay high they cause some micro damage - causes damage to the nerves int he hands and feet.

This can present as:
🖐Numbness hands or feet
🦶️Tingling or burning sensation in hands or feet
😱Pain keeps you up at night

Healing Essentials PT can help by:

- Using the Calmare Scrambler Unit. This unit can help target the nerves that have been injured by using electrodes to target the signal that a nerve is sending to the brain. Calmare works by changing the pain signal to a signal to a normal healthy signal from the nerve to the brain. It is a process and takes a few sessions. This helps calm the nerves down - resulting in many of my patients to sleep through the night!

- We can use physical therapy to work on movement that may be limited due to Diabetes. Balance, strength, and decreasing injury. We can help get you back to doing things you love

Movement ... moreover daily movement

The one ability we take advantage of in our daily lives.

We underestimate its importance.

We don't make time for it.

And we put too much pressure on ourselves to do it/when we don't get our desired results in a day.

Especially when we are fighting things like chronic pain and inflammation.

Above are my 5 tips to encourage daily movement even when pain and inflammation are at their peak.

🖐 Have you noticed that your skin is super sensitive to touch?

🧦Do your feet tingle when you put on your socks?

👚 Do you ache while getting dressed?

❄️Do you feel cold even in a hot shower?

😴 What about after a long day and you pull the blankets up and all of a sudden you’re awake because that deep pain you’ve been experiencing for months has reared its ugly head again.

😢 As soon as you feel something go over that particular area of skin, that deep, achy, cold or burning feeling comes back.

Every movement has to be calculated.

Prolonged periods of stress will result in chronic failure to down-regulate the body’s inflammatory response. This means high levels of stress can cause inflammation and pain within your body.
