The Art of the Pageant
In all the years of doing the hair for pageant there are some tips I can offer.
Pageants start for young ladies almost as soon as they can walk. It is a calculated art. Its extremely expensive. The pressures on any contestant is immense.
I don't usually meet a young contestant until about they are about 8. By then these young Ladies are seasoned. They have their Pageant coaches (Stylist) who usually charge by the hour.
Occasionally, there is a young lady who beats all the odds. That is extremely rare.
The desire for most young ladies is to fit whatever trend is hot. That isn't always the best approach when there are 50 young ladies who are on stage and all look just alike. This is where your pageant stylist is so important. He,She has seen it all. Believe me.
The first thing is the consultation. They will sit you down and get an idea where you want to go with the circuit. Depending upon the girls age is whether the mother is invited to have input.
Word to the wise, you're paying them the big bucks then you need to listen and take heed to their opinions. They've done this before and most have a wall of their wins.
They will talk to you about all sorts of avenues to take. Teeth, Breast implants and so forth. Sooner or later they embark upon the area in which I will get involved. Hair and possibly the makeup. Same there. You need to take heed to what they tell you. I will do what they tell me to do at that point. I love the art of the creation.
It can be great fun for a young lady. It can be the open door to a successful career down the road.
