Let’s talk about one of Lue Haven’s biggest needs, and one of our toughest battles: SHELTER 🏠
We can help someone find food. We can connect a family to resources, help them navigate systems, and show up when life gets heavy. But when someone has nowhere to sleep tonight, a list of phone numbers and a handful of referrals just isn’t enough.
People need somewhere to go. And right now, that is one of the biggest gaps we’re fighting to fill.
Affordable housing is difficult to find. Emergency shelter options are limited. Families fall through the cracks while waiting for assistance, and sometimes the resources that exist come with barriers that make accessing them even harder. Add children, disabilities, transportation issues, or an unexpected financial crisis to the equation, and finding a safe place can feel IMPOSSIBLE. That’s the part that weighs heavily on us.
At Lue Haven, we want to do more than tell people where to call. We want to help them get through the door. We want families to have a safe place to sleep, regroup, and figure out their next steps without the immediate fear of being out in the cold.
But building that kind of support takes funding, community involvement, and proof of the need right here at home.
That’s why we’re asking families experiencing housing insecurity to reach out to us. We want to understand the need in our community so we can work alongside our partners, demonstrate where funding is needed, and put available resources toward helping real people.
We’re also asking our community to stand with us. Donations can help us provide temporary shelter on a nightly or weekly basis for families in need, for as long as funding allows. Every contribution helps us respond to a problem that cannot wait for the perfect solution.
Our long-term goal is to help change the systems that leave people without a safe place to call home. In the meantime, we have to meet people where they are. We know temporary shelter isn’t a permanent answer. We know a few nights indoors won’t solve the housing crisis. But a safe place to sleep tonight can give a family the breathing room they need to face tomorrow.
And until we can do more, we’re going to keep doing what we can with what we have.
If you or someone you know needs temporary shelter, please reach out to Lue Haven privately. There is no shame in needing help.
If you can donate, share this post, or connect us with someone who can help expand our shelter resources, we’d be grateful. Homelessness is not an abstract issue. It’s happening to people in our own community, and winter doesn’t wait for funding applications to be approved.
Let’s get our neighbors somewhere safe before the cold settles in.
With love,
Alyssa ☮️
