"Uncle Sam" took time off from his busy summer schedule to visit Atrium Health Floyd's tiniest patients on Wednesday, just ahead of Independence Day celebrations. Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center has the only Level III NICU in northwest Georgia.
To help Rome's homeless population stay hydrated during the sweltering summer, Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center Heyman Hospice Care and Atrium Health Floyd provided more than 1,300 bottles of water to the Salvation Army on Tuesday.
Hospice contributed a total of 727 bottles of water that came through its office. Atrium Health Floyd contributed an additional 600 bottles.
"Our relationship started last year when the Salvation Army advertised their need for bottled water to benefit the homeless population during the hot summer months," said Patsy Wade, hospice bereavement coordinator. "We have been blessed this year to be joined by all of Atrium Health Floyd."
Wade said the bottled water drive will continue through July.

Seniors at Mercy Care Rome were treated to Bingocize today by members of Atrium Health Floyd's fall prevention team. Bingocize combines exercise and health information with the familiar game of bingo. It’s a great way to get seniors moving, socializing and learning how they can help prevent falls.
Shirley Willis was determined to walk out of Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center on her own two feet Wednesday after spending about a week in the hospital. Atrium Health Floyd caregivers with Inpatient Rehabilitation made sure she was able to do just that. Willis said she is eager to go back to the Rome-Floyd YMCA, where she enjoys doing the elliptical and water aerobics. When Willis arrived at the hospital she was on oxygen and had trouble making it to the door of her room. By Wednesday she could walk laps in the unit and was able to drive herself home. Atrium Health’s Tree of Life logo was installed Tuesday on the Turner McCall Boulevard side of Floyd Medical Center. The logo represents Atrium Health’s values and mission.

Get ready for a fun-filled day on Thursday, July 4th, as a fun day of food, music, inflatables and more awaits as the 2024 Independence Day Extravaganza sponsored by Atrium Health Floyd takes over Ridge Ferry Park.
The park opens to the public at noon with food trucks and concessions available. At 1:00 p.m., the splash zone opens with four water inflatables for kids to enjoy. Wristbands for the splash zone will be $5. Later in the evening, park goers can listen and dance to Rome, Georgia native, Hunter Chastain live from the Coca-Cola stage.
One of the largest fireworks shows in Georgia will be shot from the top of Jackson Hill starting at approximately 9:35 p.m. Zambelli Fireworks is once again shooting the display that will feature more than 1,500 fireworks of all types, colors and sizes.
“We look forward to this event every year, and we want everyone to come out to the park and enjoy a great day of food, fun, music and of course fireworks,” Todd Wofford, RFPRA Director says. “We also want to thank Atrium Health Floyd for sponsoring this great event.”
Rome Radio Partners will once again be broadcasting a simulcast featuring patriotic music to go along with the display. Just a reminder that parking for the event is $5 (CARD ONLY).
Please keep in mind that no large coolers, pets, drones, fires or sparklers are allowed in Ridge Ferry Park. The main parking lot at Ridge Ferry is reserved for handicapped parking only and regular parking at the Shoals Side of Ridge Ferry where the dog park is located.
