Loose skin can be an unexpected part of significant weight loss, and it can be frustrating to navigate all the advice about how to get rid of it.

The truth is that strength training, supportive clothing, and skin removal surgery all serve different purposes. No cream or exercise routine can guarantee that substantial excess skin will disappear.

The best approach depends on your body, your goals, and what matters most to you.
You don't have to pursue every possible solution. You deserve accurate information so you can decide what's right for you.

Weight loss can bring meaningful improvements to your health and quality of life. But that doesn't mean every feeling about your changing body will automatically be positive.

You can celebrate your progress without pretending that every part of the journey feels easy. You don't have to choose between being proud of yourself and acknowledging what you're struggling with.

Both can be true.

New to GLP-1 medications? Not sure where to start? You're in the right place.

If you've been hearing about medications like Wegovy and Zepbound but still have questions about how they work, what to expect, or whether they're right for you, I've created a GLP-1 for Beginners playlist to help you understand the basics.

My goal is to help you find reliable, evidence-based information so you can feel more informed when discussing your options with your doctor.

Head to my YouTube channel and check out the GLP-1 for Beginners playlist: https://www.youtube.com/

Bring your questions to your doctor, not just your algorithm.

Does strength training help with loose skin after weight loss?

It can help build muscle underneath the skin, improve strength, and change your body composition. But it cannot reliably eliminate excess skin.

That doesn't mean strength training isn't worth doing. The benefits go far beyond appearance, including better physical function and the ability to do more of the things you enjoy.

The goal isn't to find one exercise that fixes everything. It's to support the body you're living in.

What questions do you have about strength training after significant weight loss?

What if your GLP-1 doesn’t work for you?

Not everyone responds to every medication, and that’s okay. A lack of response isn’t a personal failure. It may simply mean it’s time to consider a different medication or treatment approach.

Your treatment should work for you, not the other way around.

You lost the weight. But what happens when you're left with loose skin?

Significant weight loss can bring changes you didn't expect. And even when you're proud of how far you've come, you might still struggle with how your body looks and feels.

In the newest episode of the "Conquer Your Weight", I talk about why loose skin happens after weight loss, what may help, when skin removal surgery might be an option, and how to navigate the complicated emotions that can come with a changing body.

Because reaching your weight loss goals doesn't mean you have to feel confident every single day. And you don't have to wait until you love every part of your body to start enjoying your life.

Maybe you’re wondering:

How long can you safely go without your GLP-1?

There isn't always a one-size-fits-all answer.

In this episode, Dr. Stombaugh explains why the length of time you've been off the medication matters, along with the dose you were taking and the reason you stopped.

A short interruption may not require a major change. But after several missed doses, restarting at your previous dose may not always be appropriate.
And remember: don't try to make up a missed weekly dose by taking extra medication.

Save this for the next time you have a gap in your medication.

“Taking a GLP-1 isn’t cheating.”

Here’s what I would tell my patient who feels ashamed about needing medication:

YOU ARE NOT CHEATING.

Obesity is a chronic disease influenced by much more than willpower. Genetics, hormones, metabolic health, environment, and other factors can all affect how your body regulates hunger, fullness, and weight.

And using a medication like Wegovy, Zepbound, Ozempic, or Mounjaro does not mean you stop working on your health.

For many patients, GLP-1 medication is simply another tool in the toolbox. It can help support the nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and other healthy habits they are already working on.

And one more thing: you do not owe everyone an explanation for the medication you take.

Your health history is private. You get to decide what treatment is right for you and who you want to share that information with.

Needing treatment does not mean you failed. Sometimes the right tool is what helps everything else finally click.

Save this if you’ve ever felt ashamed about needing weight loss medication, and send it to someone who needs to hear this today.

If you’re breastfeeding, you may have been told you can’t take a GLP-1.

But is the answer really that simple?

We’re starting to get more data on GLP-1 medications and breastfeeding, including semaglutide and tirzepatide. And what we’re learning is making this a much more nuanced conversation.

In the new episode of Conquer Your Weight, Dr. Stombaugh talks about what the research actually shows, who may be appropriate for treatment, and what factors need to be considered when making this decision.

If you’re breastfeeding and have questions about GLP-1 medications, this episode is for you.
