Last week Swedish Hospital recognized Hunger Awareness Week! 🎉 Our community joined hands at the 3rd annual Stock the Cupboard food drive, which collects non-perishable food and personal hygiene donations for the Cupboards. This year’s food drive brought in a record 7,292 donations! Congratulations to Saliba Kokaly’s team who were the winners of this year’s Stock the Cupboard with an impressive 3,514 donations. 🏆

Lucy Eager, born at 31 weeks, was small for her gestation, at 2 pounds 3 ounces. She spent 87 days in the Edward Hospital Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), part of NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health.

The CDC estimates about 40% of all women have dense breasts, and the rate is even higher among Black women. Increasing access to dense breast screening would help more women detect cancer that may not have shown up on a standard mammogram. Joce goes above and beyond for our patients! When a conventional cab or Uber wasn't an option for a patient using a scooter for mobility and facing limited funds, Joce stepped in.
He worked with the patient, exploring insurance options and City of Chicago programs. Joce's determination paid off as she secured a cab voucher through the nursing office, ensuring the patient's safe journey home!

Last week, our beloved Maria Balata, Director of the Pathway Program, organized the Annual Ribbon Tying event in the GMP lobby to celebrate Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It was a truly memorable moment as we all came together to decorate our tree with purple ribbons, creating a warm welcome for our patients and community right at our front doors. 💜
We had an amazing time as a community, sharing touching poems, playing fun games, and shining a light on the bravery of survivors. We wrapped up the event with these heartfelt words from Maria: "It is an honor to walk with our patients and staff impacted by domestic violence. We are grateful for all those who walk with us on this journey to promote the health and safety of survivors of domestic violence."

Benign prostatic hyperplasia, while not a cancer, is a painful condition in which the prostate gland is enlarged. Treatment options can be overwhelming and usually require compromise in some way.
