As Always, we would like to wish our patients, friends, and community a fun, safe, and Happy Halloween! 🎃

Enjoy some fun Halloween facts… We promise they’re not too spooky! 👻

DID YOU KNOW:

• Halloween became commercialized in the US in the 1900’s.
• Costumes 1st appeared in stores in the 1930’s
• Trick or treat began in the 1950’s.
• Halloween costumes, yard decorations and candy have only become more advanced and profitable over the years and it’s been stated that Halloween is one of the largest grossing Holidays in America.
• 2020 was the last year when there was a full moon on Halloween. 😮
• Jack O’ Lanterns originated in Ireland as hollowed out turnips with candles in place to keep away the evil ghosts and sprits on the Samhain holiday.
•Orange and Black are traditional Halloween colors, where Orange represents fall, and Black represents darkness.

*Some fun things that are American Traditions, but not traditional in other parts of the world:

• Candy Corn
• Sexy/ Creative Costumes – in other parts of the world there are strict dress codes
• Pumpkin/ Halloween Beer
• Decorating Houses – Most people go all out in America, more than traditional pumpkins & skeletons.
• Trick-or–Treating in general is most commonly practiced in America.

**DENTAL TIPS on ways to best prevent cavities from Halloween Candy:

• Chocolate is the best candy to eat as it melts fast and saliva washes it away quickly.
• Discard the sugary sticky candies, like fruit snacks, gummy bears, taffy, caramels, popcorn balls or lollipops. These all overload the teeth with sugar for long periods of time and take longer to get washed away by the saliva. The sticky candy also sticks to your teeth and harbors the plaque.
• Eat small amounts and drink water right after to help wash it away.
• Avoid grazing on candy.
• Donate some of it to different organizations including Troops over seas.
• Remind kids that candy can cause cavities and its important to have proper dental homecare after eating candy.

Greetings to you all from all of us here at Forest Hills Family Dentistry. First, we want to apologize to all who have had dental issues during this unprecedented forced shut down. It has always been our belief and policy that any dental emergency would receive our prompt and utmost attention. During this difficult time, Ohio Governor DeWine and the Ohio State Dental Board gave the dental profession very strict rules about what would constitute a “…true dental emergency…”. This guidance prohibited us from attending to your acute dental needs in the way you have come to expect from us with very few exceptional emergencies. As we get back to providing for your dental health, you have our commitment to return to our past of addressing any acute dental need in the timeliest manner possible. Thank you for your understanding during the most difficult time.
As we make plans to re-open the office, we wanted to share some very important information with you. The delivery of all health care has changed dramatically with the pandemic Coronavirus we are currently battling. It is no different for us providing dental health care. We want to share with you the changes you will see when we finally get the office open and operational again. These changes have been done to protect you all as our valued patients and to keep our dental office team healthy and able to treat your needs. Some of these changes will appear inconvenient or, to some, perhaps unnecessary. However, we are following guidelines from the American Dental Association, Ohio State Dental Board, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institute of Health (NIH) and others for the best practices to keep all of us healthy and stop the spread of the pandemic.

The state has allowed us to re-open on May 1, 2020. We will start seeing patients on Monday , May 4th. Our office staff will be contacting you if you had to have an appointment cancelled due to the mandated closure of the office.

We are asking all patients arriving at the office for a scheduled appointment to remain in your car and call the office (513) 231-5353 to let us know you have arrived and what car you are in. When your treatment room is available, we will call you back where you will be greeted in the reception area and escorted immediately to your treatment room. Anyone coming with you to your appointment will be asked to remain in your car until your appointment is completed and you exit our office. Parents or caregivers for minors may enter with the minor but will also be escorted to the treatment room with the minor. We do not want anyone sitting in the reception area for any reason at this time. Before entering the office, hand sanitizer will be available in the entry way to the office. We ask that each person entering the office use the hand sanitizer in the entry way prior to coming into the office.

If you do not have a scheduled appointment, please do not come into the office without first phoning us to tell us you will be coming and what time. We do not want people congregating in the reception area any more than is absolutely necessary.

At the conclusion of the appointment, patients will be escorted back to the reception area where our front desk team will check you out and, if appropriate, reschedule your next appointment. Our team will be working behind plastic barriers installed to create separation between each of you and them. Please try to keep away from the small openings in the plastic barriers where paperwork, payments etc can be passed back and forth.

We want to assure you that we have ALWAYS practiced with “universal precautions” regarding sterility where possible and heavy disinfection where sterilization isn’t possible. This includes continuous sterilization of everything that can be safely sterilized. Anything we cannot sterilize and is available as a “one time” use item we utilize for your appointment and then discard in the trash. At the conclusion of every appointment, the operatory is thoroughly disinfected with a hospital grade disinfectant per the instructions of the disinfectant manufacturer. All public areas in the office will be continually disinfected, including door handles, restrooms, counters and anything else that is contacted by anyone in the office.

There will be other changes that will be occurring in the background, all with the intention of providing for your dental health in the safest manner possible both for you and our office team.

Thank you again for your understanding during this unprecedented time and we look forward to seeing you in the office very soon. In the meantime, please practice social distancing, wash your hands, don’t touch your face and stay well.

All our best,
Drs. Dorsch, Wright and the Forest Hills Family Dentistry office team

03/16/2020

Dear patients and friends,

Our state government and dental board has advised us and all dental practices in Ohio to close their offices (except for emergency treatment) to help mitigate the CoVid-19 pandemic.

We will be wrapping up several scheduled cases tomorrow in the morning and then we will be closing the office until further notice.

We will be available for any emergencies in the short term and will resume our regular schedules as soon as it is safe for all of us and the community as a whole.

Our office phone will provide emergency contact information for anyone needing assistance.

We will send email communication and update you all on Facebook as soon as we learn more about this unprecedented situation.

Stay healthy and take care of one another.

Sincerely,
The Team at Forest Hills Family Dentistry
