October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year it’s personal.
This summer was a roller coaster of emotions and physical challenges. I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and the months that followed brought surgery, radiation, and medications. It was hard, and I’m still healing.
I was lucky to have a wonderful team of specialists at Cleveland Clinic, including, in my humble opinion, the best surgeon Paula Escobar MD I Breast Surgeon in the world. I’m deeply grateful for every one of them.
Along the way, I did something I never imagined I’d do: I practiced Breast Gymnastics on myself after surgery, and during and after radiation. I felt immediate relief from pain and swelling. Beyond the physical relief, simply practicing BreastKindness, offering my own body the same gentleness I’ve taught others for years, was profoundly healing and therapeutic.
If you or someone you love is on this path, here's what I want you to hear:
🌸 Be gentle and kind with yourself.
🌸 Take the time you need to heal.
🌸 Build the support system you need, and lean on it.
And this month, please schedule your screening or remind someone you love to schedule theirs. 💕
With kindness,
Maya
Always check with your care team before starting any hands-on technique after surgery or radiation
