Inspired by Isabella T1D Warrior 💙 Did you know that diabetes affects 366 million people worldwide? alone. Isa spent 3 long nights in the hospital being constantly poked and injected.

More than 15,000 adults and 15,000 children are diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) every year in the U.S. On August 28, 2012 our 2 year old daughter, Isabella (Isa), became one of those kids. She was very happy when she finally went home to be with us and her brother and sister (they're triplets!). Isa is doing great, but her life will be forever changed. She will be forced to manage her condition on a daily basis with a controlled diet, constant monitoring of her blood glucose levels and multiple insulin injections. By the time she turns 18 years old, Isa will have had more than 40,000 finger pricks and more than 23,000 injections of insulin. While we still have a lot to learn about T1D, we are ready to face this challenge head on and we know our little Isa will do great. We are now committed to raising awareness and fundraising to find a cure.

tomorrow is walk day with Breakthrough T1D! So I thought I would share some pictures of the little girl who never would have imagined a cure would be this close. Every dollar raised goes to supporting research for a cure to T1D. T1D is challenging but looking back at this little girl who had big dreams of what she would do in the future and who never let T1D stop her helps me to keep going every step of the way. I do this for her. Thanks for all of your support and donations so far! It’s not too late to donate!! Donate at https://www2.breakthrought1d.org/site/TR?fr_id=10761&pg=team&team_id=372387 or DM for the link!! 💙☺️

Every year, my team, Inspired by Isabella, participates in a walk at the zoo to raise money for Type 1 Diabetes research and help find a cure!! 💙 Our team has raised over $100,000 since I was diagnosed in 2012, and I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported us!!

When I think about the little 2-year-old girl who was diagnosed with T1D, I wish I could tell her how much this disease would impact her life, but also that she would grow up to do so many amazing things despite it. She would get to be a kid, chase her dreams, and one day help raise money for the very research that could change her life forever. 🥹🩵

A cure for Type 1 Diabetes would be the biggest thing I could ever ask for. I’ve never known a life without it, and the thought of one day living without diabetes means more to me than words can explain.

This year, my goal is to raise $10,000 by SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18TH!! Every donation helps fund research and brings us closer to a cure. If you can’t donate, please share this post on your story and send it to anyone who might be willing to help!!

Every donation and share means SO much to me. Thank you for helping make a future without T1D possible!! 💙🥹

things i’ve eaten while living with type one diabetes + T1D fun facts!

Frosting can contain more sugar than you think. A dessert’s carbohydrates come from its ingredients and portion size, not just how sweet it tastes.

T1D can develop at any age, not just during childhood.

Approximately 5–10% of people with diabetes in the United States have type 1 diabetes.

The autoimmune process that leads to T1D can begin months or years before symptoms appear.

The Dawn Phenomenon is when your blood sugar naturally rises in the early morning because your body releases hormones that tell your liver to release glucose, even when you haven’t eaten!

Carbs aren’t just in sweets. Bread, pasta, rice, fruit, milk, and potatoes all contain carbohydrates that can raise blood sugar.

Your CGM can sometimes show a different glucose number than a finger-stick meter because CGMs measure glucose in the fluid between cells, which can lag behind blood glucose when levels are changing quickly.

Ice cream can raise blood sugar hours later because fat can slow digestion.

Sugar-free doesn’t mean zero carbs: Sugar-free desserts can still contain starches, milk sugars, or sugar alcohols that affect glucose levels.

One regular-size Crumbl Milk Chocolate Chip cookie can contain around 94 grams of carbohydrates, depending on the recipe and nutrition information.

T1D is not caused by eating too much sugar. It’s an autoimmune disease, and diet and lifestyle habits don’t cause someone to develop it. 💙

💙 How amazing would it be to see Isa and Inspired by Isabella LEADING the Cleveland Breakthrough T1D Walk?!

We are incredibly grateful to the 33 people who have already donated to our team! But we still have ground to cover toward our goal—and this week, there’s an extra reason to help.

🏆 The Cleveland team that raises the MOST money through Sunday, October 11 will be named Grand Marshal and get to kick off and LEAD the Walk through the Zoo!

So if you’ve been thinking about supporting Isa, this is the week to do it. $10, $25, $50—every donation gets us closer to our goal AND gives Inspired by Isabella a shot at leading the Walk! 💙

And local friends—come walk with us October 18 at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo! Having our friends and family surrounding her on Walk Day is one of Isa’s favorite parts of the year.

We’re getting SO close! 🎉

Our Inspired by Isabella team has already received donations from 24 incredible people, and we are now less than $1,200 away from reaching our $5,000 fundraising goal and being recognized as a Top Team at this year’s Breakthrough T1D Walk!

And there’s an extra little incentive to help us get there…

If we reach our $5,000 goal by this Friday, September 25, Isa and our Inspired by Isabella team will be recognized on Walk Day on October 18!

We would LOVE to make that happen for Isa. 💙

If you’ve donated to us before, thank you. Truly. You’ve been part of Isa’s journey, and we are incredibly grateful. If you haven’t donated yet this year, this would be an amazing time to jump in! Even $10, $25 or $50 gets us closer to our finish line.

And for our local friends and family — come WALK with us! 👟

The Cleveland Breakthrough T1D Walk is Sunday, October 18 at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, and we’d love to fill the Zoo with our Inspired by Isabella crew. 🦓 🐆 🐅 Sign up, bring your kids, grab your friends, and make a morning of it with us. It’s always such a fun day — and having our people there makes it even more special.

Help us get to $5,000 by Friday. Help us get Isa recognized on Walk Day. And most importantly, help us keep walking toward a cure.

Yesterday, our girl Isa turned 16. 💙

Sixteen. The age when kids start getting their driver's licenses, gaining a little more independence, and taking those first exciting steps toward adulthood.

But for Isa, learning to drive comes with a whole lot more responsibility than it does for most 16-year-olds.

Before she gets behind the wheel, she doesn't just need to learn the rules of the road. Many of our local diabetes practices have teens with T1D sign a driving agreement that requires them to:

• Check their blood sugar at least four times a day and before every drive
• Have a snack before driving if their blood sugar is below 100
• Take insulin as prescribed
• Keep glucose or another source of fast-acting sugar within reach in the car
• Pull over immediately if they feel low, check their blood sugar, and not resume driving until they have recovered
• Check their blood sugar every 2–3 hours on long trips and not skip meals or snacks
• Wear a seatbelt and obey traffic laws

For a teen without diabetes, those last two are the only ones that apply.

That contrast hits us a little differently this year.

Because Isa is still a kid.

She should be thinking about where she wants to go with her friends, what music she wants to blast in the car, and the freedom that comes with finally being able to drive herself somewhere.

Instead, T1D means she also has to think like an adult about her health every single time she gets behind the wheel.

And this is just one more example of what we've learned over the past 14 years: T1D doesn't take a day off.

It doesn't care that it's your birthday.
It doesn't care that you're 16.
It doesn't care that you're at school, at practice, hanging out with friends, traveling, sleeping, or learning to drive.

It is always there.

And that's why we continue to walk.

On Sunday, October 18, we'll be back at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo with our Inspired by Isabella team for the annual Breakthrough T1D Walk. We walk because we don't want Isa to spend the next 16 years—or the next 60—getting better and better at managing this disease.

We want a cure.

If you are local, come walk with us! Bring your family. Bring your friends. Or, if you can't be there in person, a donation of any size helps us continue funding the research that could ultimately change Isa's future.

"My son will be whatever he wants to be. This illness will not define us." 💙 - Irina Zvereva, Mom of U.S. Open Championship winner, Alexander Zverev who was diagnosed with T1D at age 4.

I'm not crying. You're crying.😢

Thank you, Alexander Zverev, for making all moms of kiddos with type 1 weep today. You made not just your momma proud, but all of us, too.
