GREENLEE COUNTY IS PREPARING AN UPDATE TO THEIR HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN IN 2026

Greenlee County and the Towns of Duncan and Clifton are actively participating in a collaborative working group updating the Greenlee County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP).

A HMP is a community-driven document that evaluates local risk and vulnerabilities to a range of natural hazards and identifies projects to reduce or mitigate this vulnerability.

Participating in an HMP provides the community several benefits such as: identifying specific high-risk areas, evaluating strategies to reduce local community risk to both people and property, building relationships locally to increase resiliency, and gaining eligibility for FEMA mitigation grant programs and disaster assistance funding.

The community has the opportunity to participate in the 2026 Hazard Mitigation Questionnaire and comment on the 2021 Hazard Mitigation (current) plan.

Please contact me at the Greenlee County Health Department if you have a child or know of a child in need of a backpack for the 2026-2027 school year. I was approved for a generous grant from the United Way of Graham & Greenlee Counties to purchase backpacks and supplies for students in need in our community. Morenci Fire Association has also assisted in purchasing the remainder of supplies needed. This is open to K-12 students who attend a Greenlee County School. We do have a limited supply and will be taking nominations. Please have the students name, grade, and teacher's name available. Backpacks will be available for pick up in early July.
