It is up to us to decide which way to start our day. We can be grateful and start our day with the best thoughts and positivism or go down the path of pessimism.

I invite you to recite a “mantra” every morning when you wake up. A mantra is a phrase or word we repeat frequently. When used during meditation, it helps us stay focused. Find a mantra that works for you, that say what you need to hear, that brings you peace.
.
Ideally, choose a phrase that is positive (avoid saying I don’t or no); repeat it as a statement, not a question; make it about yourself, use I, me, my… Some examples of nice mantras are:
.
- I let go of worry about the things I can’t control. 💬
- I am loved. 💑💏
- I love myself. ❤
- I am kind to myself & those around me. 🤝
- I am surrounded by positivity. ➕
- The sunrise fills me with energy and confidence. 🌞
- I am finding my own happiness. 😊

Remember, words have a huge impact on us, and you can use them to write your own destiny!

It's been 6 months....The relapse and overdose rate has increased by 30% since March 2020. Mental health issues related to our lock down and the pandemic are especially hard for people with depression. NAMI, The National Alliance on Mental Health has a 24-hour helpline: 800-950-6264.
Now, I’m asking my small corner of FB to follow suit: Could any two of my Facebook friends just copy and repost to share the helpline far and wide?

It is often easier to "see the straw in the eyes of others." We clearly see other’s mistakes but we aren’t able to see ours. Goleman calls this blind spots, just like those in the rearview mirror.

This lack of vision, especially towards ourselves, prevents us from being responsible for our behavior and leads us to be defensive or blame others for all our ills. In the yogic philosophy we are invited to see our SHADOW. 
I invite you to be brave and vulnerable, be aware of your blind spots, shed LIGHT on your shadow.

Con frecuencia, es más fácil “ver la paja en el ojo ajeno”, es decir vemos los errores de los demás, pero no somos capaces de ver los nuestros. Como si estuviéramos ciegos. Para Goleman, esto se debe a los Puntos ciegos de nuestro cerebro (Blind spots) o ángulos muertos, como los del espejo retrovisor.
Esta falta de visión, sobre todo hacia nosotros mismos, nos impide ser responsables por nuestro comportamiento y nos lleva a estar siempre a la defensiva, o a culpar a  los demás, de todos nuestros males. La filosofía del yoga nos invita a ver nuestra SOMBRA.
Te invito a ser valiente y vulnerable, concientizar tus puntos ciegos, e iluminar tu sombra.

Negative self-talk is very common, especially among those that are not aware of the fact that we don’t have to keep treating ourselves that way.
As we continue to talk about developing a more positive way to communicate with ourselves, I invite you to ask: -Where is this criticism coming from? Did I ever hear someone else tell me this things? It’s very possible you are hearing comments that your mom, dad, or somebody significant in your life use.
.
Maybe they weren’t even directed to you. If a mother uses self-deprecating language about her image in front of her daughter, it’s very possible her girl will learn to treat herself in the same way.
.
Every time I look at the mirror and think “I look (awful, old, fat… you fill in the blank!) today!” I connect to the long list of women in my family that have said the same thing about themselves. With kindness and compassion I remind myself:
“This is not me talking. I treat myself with love and respect.”
.

El diálogo interno negativo es muy común, especialmente entre aquellos que no son conscientes del hecho de que no tenemos que seguir tratándonos de esa manera.
Mientras continuamos hablando sobre el desarrollo de una manera más positiva de comunicarnos con nosotros mismos, los invito a preguntarse:
-¿De dónde viene esta crítica? ¿Alguna vez escuché a alguien más decirme estas cosas? Es muy posible que estés escuchando comentarios que tu mamá, papá o alguien importante en tu vida usen.

Tal vez ni siquiera estaban dirigidas a ti. Si una madre usa un lenguaje autocrítico sobre su imagen frente a su hija, es muy posible que su niña aprenda a tratarse a sí misma de la misma manera.
.
Cada vez que me miro al espejo y pienso "¡Me veo (horrible, vieja, gorda ..., llena el espacio en blanco!) Hoy!" Me conecto con la larga lista de mujeres de mi familia que han dicho lo mismo sobre ellas. Con amabilidad y compasión me recuerdo:
"Esta no soy yo hablando. Me trato con amor y respeto ”.

- There are people out there willing to help you.
- Sometimes talking about an issue is all we need to release it and let it go.
- I rather you help me figure out my own solutions than tell me what to do. Otherwise I probably won’t do it.
- Asking for help is BRAVE.
- Willing to accept the help and work on improving is BRAVER.
- Each counselor has a unique way to do things, find the one that works for you.
- Counseling is emotionally draining. I get home really tired even when I am sitting all day.
- I work hard on separating work from personal life. Still, sometimes I get home and cry to let out the weight I am sharing with my clients
- Counselors are not master manipulators, I cannot make anyone do what I want
.
I believe in counseling, it works! So I have a counselor myself.

When you live from consciousness, you discover that your best guides are your own values, that wanting to be better just to “be seen” is not what really gives you happiness. Plenitude is only achieved when you grow for your own self. You realize that humility really is a virtue, that your light is not for others to see you but for your own enlightenment, so you can help others see themselves. Only by giving to yourself and to others, you will receive.

Therefore, enjoy and share quality things, make each day worth living, be grateful as if each dream was granted, and decide that each day will be better than the last.

Cuando se vive desde la conciencia descubres que tus mejores guías son tus propios valores, que aparentar y querer ser mejor solo para que te vean, no es lo que realmente te da felicidad. La plenitud, sólo se logra cuando de verdad te creces para ti mismo. Te haces mejor para ti. Te das cuenta que la humildad te hace grande, que tu luz no es para que te vean sino para alumbrar, es decir para que otros se vean a sí mismo. Y que sólo dándote y dando, recibirás.
Por eso, disfruta y comparte cosas de calidad, haz que cada día valga la pena ser vivido, agradece como si cada sueño te fuera concedido, y decide que cada día va a ser mejor que el anterior.

Living from consciousness is a challenge, the challenge of being alive and awake. Aware of what happens to us inside and outside, mindfully. It allows us to flow with what is happening moment by moment in our lives.
This is a new way of life, being harmoniously centered, without letting ourselves be carried away by the maelstrom of external events or daily automatisms. It’s to live fully every moment from the here and now.

Vivir desde la conciencia supone un reto, el reto de estar vivo y despierto. Consciente de lo que nos acontece por dentro y afuera, desde una atención plena, que nos permita simplemente fluir con lo que va sucediendo instante a instante, en nuestras vidas.

Anthony de Mello (1931-1987) mystic, writer and Catholic priest, gives us this powerful story in his book «The song of the bird»:
“As a young man I was a revolutionary and my prayer was to say to God: ‘Lord, give me strength to change the world‘. As I became an adult and I realized that I had spent half my life without having managed to change one soul, I transformed my prayer and began to say: ‘Lord, give me the grace to transform those who come into contact with me. Even if it's just my family and my friends. With that I am satisfied'. Now, that I am an old man and my days are numbered, I have begun to understand how stupid I have been. My only prayer today is the following: "Lord, give me the grace to change myself." If I had prayed this way from the beginning, I would not have wasted my life."

El sufí Bayazid dice acerca de sí mismo:
De joven yo era un revolucionario y mi oración consistía en decir a Dios:
‘Señor, dame fuerzas para cambiar el mundo‘.

A medida que fui haciéndome adulto y caí en la cuenta de que me había pasado media vida sin haber logrado cambiar a una sola alma, transformé mi oración y comencé a decir:
‘Señor, dame la gracia de transformar a cuantos entran en contacto conmigo. Aunque sólo sea a mi familia y a mis amigos. Con eso me doy por satisfecho‘.

Ahora, que soy un viejo y tengo los días contados, he empezado a comprender lo estúpido que he sido. Mi única oración hoy es la siguiente: “Señor, dame la gracia de cambiarme a mí mismo”. Si yo hubiera orado de este modo desde el principio, no habría malgastado mi vida.
