Founded by Margie Woods, a complex trauma survivor, creativity coach, and artist with a Master’s in Psychology. Language of the Soul studio provides a safe and nurturing environment in which people can access their creativity and give a visual “voice” to emotions, ideas and experiences. No previous experience with art is necessary, for I believe that everyone is an artist and has a unique style that can and will emerge if explored, cultivated, encouraged and given room to breathe. My workshops and posts are designed to gently break down any self-imposed or perceived barriers to creativity (“I'm not an artist”, “I'm not creative”, “I can't paint”, etc.) and liberate the natural wisdom of the artist and creative being that exists within all of us.

A little public service announcement today reminding you that THERE ARE NO RULES! ❤️

You get to do this practice your way. It does not have to look like mine or anybody else’s. It is yours.

And if you’re feeling stuck, all you have to do to get started is make a mark. Just one mark on the page. The more you make those marks and take those baby steps, the more you begin to discover your own way of doing things and give yourself permission to create from your intuition and your own unique creative voice.

Creativity is like a muscle. The more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. And I’m not saying that to make you feel like you should be doing more, but simply to remind you that, just like going for a walk, sometimes the hardest part is taking that first step out the door.

So make that first mark. See where it takes you. Choose the colors you want, use whatever materials you feel drawn to, and let yourself explore without worrying about what it’s supposed to look like.

You get to do it YOUR way.

🤓 NERD ALERT! I am completely obsessed with asemic writing, as I’m sure you all know by now! 😂

I seriously nerd out over this practice because every single time I do it, it looks different! There are SO many ways to explore it, so many different tools to use, and endless possibilities for creating interesting marks, lines, textures, and patterns.

And while I absolutely love asemic writing as a meditative practice and a form of creative self-care, I also just LOVE it as an art-making technique. It’s playful, expressive, experimental, and endlessly fascinating to me.

I mean, just look at all these different papers! Same basic practice, completely different results. How could I not be obsessed?!
