If you only had one page for your medical information, make it count.

The exact list can be simple. What matters most is having it ready before you need it.

In a crisis, you may be stressed, scared, rushed, or unable to answer every question clearly. Having your key medical information in one place can help you, your caregiver, and your healthcare team move faster and with fewer gaps.

Preparation is one of the best gifts you can give yourself and the people who may need to speak for you.

Do it before the emergency.

Awareness is not just knowing what to look for.

It is also knowing your own history.

Do you know whether breast cancer runs in your family?
Do you know when your healthcare provider recommends you begin screening?
Have you talked about whether your personal or family history changes what screening may be appropriate for you?

These are conversations worth having before there is a problem.

This October, use Breast Cancer Awareness Month as the reminder to learn your history, ask your questions, and talk with your healthcare provider about the screening plan that is right for you.

Awareness should lead to action.
And we at SunNav hope you take October to take action.

Keeping families in the loop matters, especially when care gets complicated.

At SunNav, we primarily use HIPAA-secure email for important updates and keep text messages to a minimum when protected health information is involved.

The goal is simple: make sure the right people have the right information, while protecting the patient’s privacy every step of the way.

Good communication helps families stay coordinated, reduces confusion, and makes it easier for everyone to understand what is happening and what comes next.

A denied claim is frustrating enough for the patient.

For the caregiver trying to manage appointments, medications, paperwork, phone calls, and everything else on top of it? It can feel like one more impossible thing to fix.

SunNav Healthcare Advocates helps patients and families make sense of insurance denials, confusing policy language, claim issues, and the appeals process.

Our advocates can help review denial letters, identify missing documentation, organize records and timelines, communicate with providers and insurance companies, and support families through the appeal process.

Services may include:

✔️ Claim review and denial explanation
✔️ Insurance policy interpretation
✔️ Appeal preparation and documentation support
✔️ Communication with providers and insurers
✔️ Ongoing advocacy throughout the appeals process

Caregivers already carry enough. You should not have to become an insurance expert overnight too.

A rehab denial does not always have to be the final answer.

Sometimes the difference is knowing how the system works, understanding what the insurance company is asking for, and being persistent enough to keep pushing when the first answer is no.

That is exactly what advocacy can do.

It is not just making phone calls. It is knowing what questions to ask, what documentation matters, who to contact, and when to keep going.

Knowledge of the healthcare system plus knowledge of insurance, with a healthy dose of persistence, can make a very real difference for patients and families.

That is why patient advocacy matters.

Why can’t I just do this myself?

Sometimes you can.

But think about it this way: I don’t try to diagnose and fix my own car. I take it to someone who has the training and experience to know what they are looking at. It saves me time, money, frustration, and a whole lot of guessing.

Your healthcare deserves at least that same level of care.

A patient advocate knows the system, knows what questions to ask, and knows where problems tend to hide. That experience can matter when you are dealing with something complicated, stressful, or unfamiliar.

We also know that hiring an advocate is not possible for everyone.

That is exactly why we talk so much about learning to be your own advocate. There are things you can learn now that will help you ask better questions, stay organized, and make more informed decisions later.

Stick around. We are going to keep teaching you how.

How do you compare Medicare plans and know what you actually need?

Start by getting prepared.

Make a list of your doctors, medications, diagnoses, preferred pharmacies, and the kind of care you use most. Then talk with a licensed Medicare insurance professional who can help you compare your options. Your local Chamber of Commerce can be a good place to look for reputable professionals in your area.

You can also bring in a patient advocate to help you understand the bigger picture, organize your questions, and make sure you are not missing something important.

There are a lot of options, and they can be confusing. Ask questions. Get a second opinion if you need one. Have someone you trust sit with you while you compare.

And adult children: this is a good time to help your parents review their coverage too.

The calls are coming. The ads are everywhere. Do your due diligence before you make a change.

Adult children: Medicare Open Enrollment is a good time to check your parents’ plan with them.

Make sure you understand what coverage they have, whether their doctors and medications are still covered, what costs may have changed, and who to call if there is a problem.

If you ever need to step in during a medical crisis, you do not want that to be the first time you are seeing their Medicare information.

Use Open Enrollment to get familiar with the plan now, ask questions, and make sure the coverage still fits their needs.
