She has a heritage of nursing! Emergency Department Registered Nurse Kaitlyn Doty has a number of relatives in the nursing field – including her mom.

β€œGrowing up, I remember families coming up to her at stores or school functions, and thanking her for the care she gave to their loved ones,” Doty recalled. β€œSeeing the pride she took in her job and the people she was encountering has always made her a strong role model in my life, and gave me a desire to follow in her footsteps.”

That’s why, even from her very first job, Kaitlyn has been attracted to health care. She started as a certified nursing assistant at age 17 before becoming a student, intern and eventually a full-time nurse.

β€œMy transition as a new graduate nurse was intimidating, but quickly felt like home, due to the wonderful work family I now call my own,” Kaitlyn said.

In her four years at Swedes, Kaitlyn has found that nursing isn’t a job she can walk away from at the end of a shift.

β€œNursing is mentally, physically and emotionally challenging,” she said. β€œOur day does not stop when we punch out. We continue to think about our day, our patients and their families. The time we spend with our patients and their families throughout our shift remains with us as we continue on.

β€œI love learning about each of my patients. Not just their medical background, but about their life.”

With the weather warming up and vaccinations increasing, it’s hard not to feel a sense of optimism! But we can’t let up just yet.

This week it was reported by the Scott County Health Department that COVID-19 positivity rates are rising again in Scott County. It’s critical that as a community we continue to take precautions to prevent COVID-19. Wear a mask, avoid large gatherings, complete your symptom tracker every day and stay home if you feel ill.

We all must do our part to ensure we can complete the spring semester on campus and not jeopardize the responsible normalcy we look forward to in fall 2021.

We can do this, Bees! Keep it up! 😷🐝 #BeeSafeBeeResponsible

Thank you...πŸ’™πŸ
