Whether it happened at the gym, playing a sport, at work, or during everyday life, lingering discomfort can be a sign that it is worth taking a closer look.

We may assess things like:

• How the area is moving
• Strength and range of motion
• Movements that reproduce your symptoms
• How the injury is affecting your normal activities
• What may be appropriate for your recovery plan

The goal is to understand what is going on and help you make an informed plan for getting back to the activities that matter to you.

If an old or recent injury is still holding you back, book an assessment with us today.

What you do between appointments matters too.

Here are 3 habits we would love to see you work on:

Move throughout the day. Long periods in the same position can leave you feeling stiff. Stand up, walk around, and change positions regularly.

Actually do the exercises you were given. If we recommend specific stretches or exercises for you, consistency matters.

Pay attention to your everyday habits. Your workstation, sleep routine, training schedule, driving position, and daily movement all contribute to how your body feels.

Chiropractic visits are only one part of the bigger picture. Your everyday habits can help support the progress you are working toward.

Ever notice yourself leaning, hiking one shoulder, or shifting your body while carrying a heavy bag? That is your body adapting to the extra load.

A heavy or poorly positioned bag can change how you stand, walk, distribute your weight, and use your shoulders and trunk.

This does not mean carrying a bag is automatically harmful. The amount of weight, how long you carry it, how the bag fits, and how your body responds all matter.

A few helpful habits:

- Use both backpack straps when possible
- Keep the bag close to your body
- Remove items you do not need
- Adjust the straps for a comfortable fit
- Switch sides regularly if carrying a one-shoulder bag

If carrying your bag consistently feels uncomfortable, it may be worth changing the load or fit.

You do not have to wait until discomfort becomes severe to get it looked at.

These are 3 signs we’d want you to get your back assessed:

The same discomfort keeps coming back.
It is starting to affect your workouts, workday, sleep, or everyday activities.
You keep modifying how you move because something does not feel right.

An assessment can help us better understand how you are moving, what may be contributing to the issue, and what options make sense for you.

If this sounds familiar, book your assessment with us.

Before school starts, take 60 seconds to check your child's backpack fit.

- Use both straps. Wearing the backpack over both shoulders helps distribute the load more evenly.
- Keep it close to the body. Loose straps can cause the bag to hang farther away and feel harder to carry.
- Avoid letting it hang too low. Adjust the shoulder straps so the backpack sits comfortably against the back.
- Put heavier items closest to the back. Books and larger items should generally sit closer to the body.
- Clean it out regularly. Old papers, extra books, and forgotten water bottles can add unnecessary weight.

Small adjustments can make carrying a backpack much more comfortable.

Relaxation does not always happen automatically after a stressful day. Like many other skills, your ability to slow down can improve with practice.

Simple habits such as:

- Slow, comfortable breathing
- Going for a quiet walk
- Taking a break from screens
- Gentle movement or stretching
- Keeping a consistent bedtime routine

Stress is a normal part of life. The goal is to build habits that help you recover from it.

Staying in one position for hours can leave your body feeling stiff, even if your posture looks “good.”
Small movement breaks throughout the day can make a difference. Stand up, walk around, stretch, or simply change positions.
If discomfort keeps coming back, it may be worth looking at more than your chair. Your mobility, strength, daily habits, and workload can all play a role.

If neck or back discomfort is becoming part of your everyday routine, we can assess what may be contributing to it and help you figure out your next step.

A backpack should feel manageable, balanced, and comfortable enough that your child can walk normally while wearing it.
If they are leaning forward, struggling to put it on, or constantly adjusting the straps, the backpack may be overloaded or poorly fitted.

A few things to check:

- Remove items that are not needed that day
- Place heavier items closer to the back
- Use both shoulder straps
- Adjust the straps so the bag sits close to the body
- Watch for changes in posture or walking while the backpack is on

A backpack should not feel like a workout just to get through the school day.

Save this for your next backpack check.

Sometimes it looks like tight shoulders, a stiff neck, jaw tension, headaches, or a back that seems to flare up every time life gets busy.

That’s because your stress response is physical too.

When your nervous system stays on high alert, your muscles can become more guarded, movement can feel less comfortable, and pain can become more noticeable.
