Dracula is very interested in your blood. 🧛 So is your healthcare provider, but for much better reasons.

A quick blood pressure check and some routine lab work can tell you a lot about what’s going on inside. Your blood pressure, blood sugar/A1C and cholesterol help show how your heart, blood vessels and metabolism are doing.

If you’re already living with high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol, regular follow-up visits matter, too. They give you and your care team a chance to see what’s working, adjust medications if needed and spot changes early.

Can’t remember the last time you had labs done? That’s worth asking about.

Leave the midnight blood cravings to Dracula. Your numbers deserve a follow-up.đŸ©ž

Flu shots are IN. 💉🙌

And now is a great time to check yours off the to-do list!

Getting vaccinated before flu season really picks up gives your body time to build protection. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your immune system to develop antibodies against the flu.

A little planning now can help you avoid a whole lot of tissues, cough drops, and canceled plans later. đŸ€§

Flu shots are now available at Uptown Community Health Center. Contact us to schedule yours!

What a fun day celebrating our local heroes and connecting with the Aurora community! 💙

We loved being part of the first-ever Hometown Heroes Day, hosted by the Aurora Police Department. More than 1,500 people came out to enjoy the festivities, meet local first responders, and connect with 70 community organizations and partners.

It was wonderful to see so many families, neighbors, and local organizations come together for a day all about community.

A big thank-you Aurora Police Department for putting together such a great event and inviting us to be part of it. We're already looking forward to next year! 💙

October 20 is World Osteoporosis Day, a good reminder that bone health isn’t something to think about only after a fall.

Osteoporosis makes bones weaker and more likely to break, and it often has no symptoms until a fracture happens. The good news? There are simple things you can do to help keep your bones strong!

💚 Get moving. Walking, dancing, strength training, and other weight-bearing activities can help build and maintain strong bones.

đŸ„› Feed your bones. Make sure you're getting enough calcium and vitamin D through your diet or supplements, if needed.

🚭 Skip the smoking and limit alcohol. Both can take a toll on bone health over time.

👟 Watch your step. Good lighting, supportive shoes, and keeping walkways clear can help prevent falls and fractures.

And don't forget about bone density screenings! Depending on your age, health history, and risk factors, your healthcare provider may recommend one.

Your bones do a lot for you. Show them a little love! 💙

We’re all for a little ghosting in October. Just not when it comes to your health. đŸ‘»đŸŽ€

Breast cancer screening isn’t one-size-fits-all. When you should start, how often you should be screened, and what type of screening you may need can depend on things like your age, personal health history and family history.

So if you’ve been ignoring that reminder—or simply aren’t sure what you’re due for—talk with your healthcare provider about what makes sense for you.

And if you notice a new or unusual change in your breasts, don’t wait for your next routine screening to bring it up.

Ghost the group chat if you must. Not your health. 😉

Yard work: nature’s CrossFit.

If all that raking, lifting, reaching and hauling leaves you with an ache or pain that isn’t getting better, you don’t have to just live with it.

Uptown Community Health Center’s Sports Medicine team can help figure out what’s going on and help get you moving comfortably again.

Your yard may look great. Your back deserves some attention, too. 😉

Your mental health counts as health. Full stop. 💙

Stress. Anxiety. Depression. Grief. Burnout. Feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes it’s obvious when you’re struggling. Sometimes you’re getting through work, taking care of everyone else, checking things off the list—and still not feeling like yourself.

You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to talk about it.

This World Mental Health Day, consider this your reminder to check in with yourself with the same attention you’d give any other part of your health. And if you need support, talking with your healthcare provider is a good place to start.

You’re allowed to take care of what people can’t see, too.

Your Medicare plan worked for you this year. But will it still work for you next year?

Medicare Open Enrollment is a good time to take a fresh look. Plans can change. Your medications can change. Your doctors can change. And your healthcare needs can change, too.

From October 15 through December 7, people with Medicare can review their current coverage and make changes for the coming year.

Even if you’re happy with what you have, it’s worth checking things like your prescription coverage, costs, benefits, and whether the doctors and healthcare services you use are still covered the way you expect.

Because when it comes to healthcare, “same as last year” isn’t always the same.

Some teachers have classrooms. Ours have exam rooms. đŸ©ș

This World Teachers’ Day, we’re celebrating the physicians and healthcare professionals who do more than care for patients at Uptown Community Health Center—they help train the next generation of doctors.

As a teaching health center, learning is part of what happens here every day.

Residents care for patients alongside experienced physicians who teach, mentor, ask questions, share what they’ve learned, and help prepare them for the patients they’ll care for throughout their careers.

It’s a pretty incredible kind of ripple effect: teach one doctor well, and you help shape the care of thousands of future patients.

To all the teachers in medicine—and everywhere else—Happy World Teachers’ Day. 💙

Unlike vampires, the flu doesn’t need an invitation. 🧛🩠

It can show up at work, school, the grocery store—or courtesy of that one person who insists, “It’s just a little cough.” 👀

As we head into flu season, the boring-but-effective basics really do matter:

- Wash your hands
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Avoid close contact with others when you’re sick
- Give your body the rest and fluids it needs

And if you’re an older adult or living with certain chronic health conditions, pay extra attention to how you’re feeling. Flu can be more serious for some people, so reach out to your healthcare provider if you’re sick and concerned about your symptoms.

Vampires need an invitation. Flu just needs an opportunity. Don’t make it easy. đŸ§›â€â™‚ïž
