Golden Milk is one of my absolute favorite drinks. 💛 It’s warm, creamy, comforting, and it just makes my tummy happy. For me, it feels like a little wellness ritual in a cup.
Golden milk has roots in the South Asian tradition of haldi doodh, or turmeric milk, where turmeric and warming spices have been enjoyed for generations. My version combines turmeric, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, a little healthy fat, a creamy milk of choice, and maple syrup, raw honey, or the sweetener of your choice.
Turmeric contains curcumin, a plant compound studied for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and its potential to support joint comfort and overall wellness.
Ginger has a long history of use for digestive comfort and may help support a settled stomach, healthy digestion, and relief from occasional nausea.
Cardamom is aromatic and warming and has traditionally been used to support digestion. It also contains naturally occurring antioxidant plant compounds.
Cinnamon adds warmth and depth of flavor and provides antioxidant plant compounds. It has also been studied for its potential role in supporting healthy blood sugar and metabolic wellness.
Black pepper contains piperine, which may help the body absorb curcumin more effectively, making it a wonderful partner for turmeric.
Coconut oil adds richness and provides fat to accompany curcumin, which is fat-soluble. If you don’t use coconut oil, avocado oil, extra-virgin olive oil, ghee, or a small amount of butter can be used instead.
Unsweetened coconut milk makes my version wonderfully creamy and dairy-free. If coconut isn’t your thing, try unsweetened oat milk, almond milk, cashew milk, or regular dairy milk—whatever works best for you.
Maple syrup offers natural sweetness along with small amounts of minerals and beneficial plant compounds, including antioxidants.
Raw honey contains naturally occurring antioxidants and polyphenols and has long been valued for its soothing properties, especially for the throat.
When everything comes together, you get a fragrant, warming drink that may support digestive comfort, antioxidant intake, joint wellness, and overall nourishment.
But my favorite benefit may be the simplest one: Golden Milk tastes delicious, warms me from the inside out, and makes my tummy happy. 🫖🌿💛
