We hear “I’m doing all the right things” every week at Rise.

Stress is stress. A big deadline, a short night, a skipped lunch, and a hard class all go in one bucket. On a heavy week, the workout is often what tips it over, and that’s when you wake up stiff, feel tight by 3pm, and can’t settle at bedtime.

Before your next hard workout, ask:
Did I sleep?
Have I eaten?
How heavy is this week?

All good: go for it. One rough: lower the intensity. Two or more: walk, easy flow, or rest.

Adjusting on a heavy week is how you keep training for years. Save this for the next one.

Meet Emily 👋

Emily is our new Patient Experience Coordinator. Before working at Rise, she spent time working in a physical therapy office, so she knows how much a warm welcome matters. She is excited to bring her own touch to the “Rise Living Room” so it continues to be a wonderful place to be cared for and build community.

Emily followed Rise on Instagram long before she joined the team, and she's believed in what we're building here from the start. Her hope is simple: that you feel welcomed, comfortable, and well taken care of every time you're here.

A few things to know about Emily:
🏙️ She's from the Chicago suburbs, and the day she moved in was her first time in Ohio.
⚾️ She and her husband are big Cubs fans.
🤗 You'll find her at the Dublin Market most Saturdays with her family.

Next time you’re in, say hi and introduce yourself.
Welcome to the team, Emily. We’re SO glad you’re here!

We hear "I'm doing all the right things" a lot at Rise, usually from someone who trains hard, eats well, and still wakes up stiff.

When we ask what the week has looked like, it's often a big deadline, short nights, and the same hard classes as a calm week. That's what we mean when we say stress is stress. It all goes in one bucket.

The check on slide 5 is the one we'd use on your next heavy week. It doesn't need to be perfect.

If workouts you used to love keep leaving you wrecked, we'd love to look at the whole picture with you. Use the link in our bio to book an evaluation.

Every care plan at Rise follows the same map: red, yellow, green.

Earlier this week we talked about why relief wears off after a few good days. A lot of the time, that's what happens when care stops at red. The pain calms down, life gets busy, and the part that helps it hold never gets its turn.

Here's how we know it's time to move to the next color: Your symptoms lessen, your adjustmens hold longer between sessions, your patterns stabilize and you can also do things you weren't doing before.

We built the Roadmap because it helps you see a sliver of the knowledge that is living in our heads. We believe that you should understand your care and be an active participant in it. Your care is not something that should just happen "to" you. And the roadmap can really help you see exactly where you're at and where you're going.

Knowing where you are on the map means you're not left guessing whether it's working.

If you're not sure which color you're in, book an evaluation through the link in our bio.

We get asked about massage guns in the office a lot, usually by someone who owns one and hasn’t charged it in months.

Here’s how we’d use it. Lowest setting, upper back and shoulders, about 30 seconds in each area. Keep it moving on the muscle, and skip the front of your neck and right on your spine. Do it on the couch during your show, then trade with whoever’s sitting next to you. A few minutes most nights does more than one hard session on the weekend.

What it won’t do is fix a spot that keeps coming back. If the relief fades after a few days and the tightness shows up in the same place, maybe it’s more than just muscle tightness.

5 years ago, Rise was Nicole and Jay. Today it's 3 doctors and a dietitian who all work together to support each person in our practice.

Most people who come in have already tried a lot. Deep tissue massage, boutique fitness classes, supplements, a few rushed PT or chiro visits. Each one helped a little. None of them knew what the others were doing, so you ended up being the one connecting the dots.

That's the gap we built Rise around. When you come in for neck tension or a stiff shoulder, we spend time getting to know you. We ask deeper questions that you might feel is totally unrelated to the symptoms you're experiencing. But we want to understand not just what your symptoms are telling us in your body, but how your work enviornment, your posture, your life demands all contribute to what you're feeling.

We set it up this way because we wanted care that actually fits into your life. And that means understanding what your life actually looks like so the advice and treatment we provide to you is truly practical. Wellness cannot happen in perfect conditions. It fits inbetween the moments of real life and that is what makes it sustainable.

So the tight shoulder gets looked at next to what might be feeding it, like sleep, stress, what you're eating, and how you're training.

One thing that helps wherever you go: bring a short list of what you've tried and what each one did. It's the fastest way for anyone treating you to see the pattern.

If you'd like to meet us before booking anything, schedule a discovery call through the link in our bio.

We hear this one in the office all the time: "I was getting deep tissue massage every few weeks, and it helped, kind of."

That "kind of" usually means the muscles are guarding a joint that isn't moving well. Massage calms them down, and the joint underneath gives them a reason to tighten right back up.

One thing to try this week: after your next massage, notice which day the tightness comes back and exactly where. That pattern tells you a lot, and it tells whoever is treating you even more.

At Rise, we co-manage with massage therapists instead of asking you to pick one. An evaluation looks at how the joint is moving, how the muscles around it are carrying load, and what else is feeding the pattern, like sleep, stress, and how you train. Then everyone works from one plan, so the relief has something to hold onto.

Nothing is wrong with you. You just need more than one piece.

When you're ready, book an evaluation through the link in our bio.

This one is for everyone who has been coming to Rise for a while.

The Extended Follow Up Visit gives us room to do deeper soft tissue work, like muscle scraping, and your adjustment in the same visit. It's the one we reach for when an area keeps coming back no matter what you try at home.

Ask us about it at your next visit. We are happy to talk through whether it's a fit.

Earlier this week, all three of our doctors sat down with one topic on the table: perimenopause.

We spent the last two weeks studying the same material. Not to treat menopause, because that is not ours, but to get better at the questions.

What should we be asking that we have not been? When does sleep need to come first? Who should we be sending you to for the parts that are not ours?

Because you are not going to walk in and tell us your estrogen is dropping. You are going to walk in with a shoulder. We want to be the office that asks the next question.

Our Perimenopause blog post breaks down the symptoms we keep seeing and what we look at. You can find it at the link in our bio.

Five symptoms, five different providers, and nobody has ever said them out loud in the same sentence. That is the part we would like to change.

A shoulder that locked up in your forties with nothing to blame it on is often connected to more than the shoulder. We will absolutely take care of it. We are also going to ask about the rest.

The full read is on our blog, link in bio.
