It’s a new year! If you are one of the millions (99 million, according to WalletHub, a personal finance website) who make New Year’s resolutions, have you started working on any of them?

It’s early, I know — only a few days into 2020. If you made financial resolutions, you would need more time to execute them — and time to review last year’s resolutions to see what worked, and to assess how likely it is that resolutions will be successful.

7 Self-Care Resolutions to Make 2020 Your Happiest, Healthiest Year Yet.

The New Year has begun. As we move into 2020, it's time to whip out your notebook and consider ways to improve your life this year. If you're hoping to be happier and healthier than ever (and who isn't?), be sure to add some self-care to your list.

"Self-care means taking part in activities that improve your mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being," Christopher Ryan Jones, PsyD, told POPSUGAR. "We live in a very busy world. There are so many things that are bidding for our time. Many people are so busy they often forget to take care of themselves." The next thing you know, you're overcome with the stress of your day-to-day life. "This is detrimental to your health and well-being and actually makes you less productive in the long run," he explained. With that in mind, here are seven simple ways you can turn the tides this year.

5 New Year’s resolutions you should be making about time management.

You likely already have too much to do, too many goals, too many unfinished projects, and too many disappointments from this past year.

So as you look ahead to 2020, the idea of adding more seems kind of exciting but also a bit daunting. That’s why we recommend that you do the opposite. Resolve to do less, and experience your best year possible.

Less is more. Here are five resolutions to make it happen:

If eating healthier is one of your top new year priorities, that's great. But "I'm going to eat healthier this year" is one of those well intentioned, but too-hard-to-define goals that isn't nearly as easy done as said. (That's one reason it's so hard to keep resolutions.) So if the big idea is healthier eating, you'll have better success if you break it down in to bite-sized mini-goals like these healthy eating tips we've gathered from registered dietitians.

The one-little-thing-at-a-time approach can be used for any number of new year's resolutions—or anytime resolutions—you make. The truth is, when you set one big giant goal, it can be hard to know where to start and easy to lose your momentum. But if you set smaller goals to reach along the way, you're making progress and meeting mini-milestones as you go. And we all know little feels quite as good as checking something off your to-do list.

Want to get fit? Start with a weekly fitness plan to put you on the right track and give you specific workouts to crush at the gym (no more wandering aimlessly from machine to machine). Determined to actually get eight hours of sleep a night? Start by tackling the surprising sleep mistake that's making you so darn tired all the time. And as for that healthy eating goal? Tricks like eating veggies with breakfast and snacking on two pieces of fruit everyday are super simple ways to upgrade the eating habits you already have. These tips are so easy to follow, you’ll have no problem getting your new habits to stick.

Read on for some of the smartest, easiest ways to make every day healthier—and tastier, too. Here are nine healthy eating tips registered dietitians swear by.

It's no secret that come January 1, many Americans name weight loss as their number one New Year's resolution. And, as it goes, just one week into the new year, people begin falling like flies when it comes to sticking to diet and exercise. In fact, according to a 2018 study, researchers found that the rate at which people stick to weight loss goals drastically drops 25% at the one-week mark, 33% by February, and 50% by June.

Disheartened? Don't be. The point is that we put so much pressure on ourselves, creating lofty goals and tackling them at full force, only to burn out or become immediately disappointed when we don't see instantaneous results. But there is an effective approach to getting your body into gear without completely losing your mind (and intentions) along the way. It just requires a little patience—and maybe a little attitude adjustment. How about—gasp—actually enjoying the process? See how below.

The Importance of Self Care During the Holidays.

“The most wonderful time of the year.” Unfortunately, that’s not the experience for many people during the holiday season. There is often an increase in depressive feelings as time and money resources are drained and people struggle with recent or unresolved loss. Self-care is vital year round, but even more so during this stressful season. Many find themselves dealing with external stressors which includes environmental factors or events as well as internal stressors which stem from maladaptive personal behaviors, traits or lifestyle choices.

In the Holiday Spirit: Giving, Gratitude, and Grace.
Don't let the holidays become something you dread. Instead, get into the holiday spirit by practicing a meditation inviting giving, gratitude, and grace.

It would be beautiful to use the holiday season to spiritually expand, to show that this time of year is more than a hectic splurge of spending that leads to stress, family conflict, and depression. Many people experience that negative reality and don't know how to change it into something more positive. The key is to think in terms of things you can do that benefit you while at the same time connecting with others at a deep level.

I'm thinking of three words that we can all focus on: giving, gratitude, and grace.

12 Tips for holiday eating.
It’s easy to get swept up in the holiday season. This combination of religious and national celebrations can help keep the cold winter away. But the feasts and parties that mark it can tax the arteries and strain the waistline. By eating just 200 extra calories a day — a piece of pecan pie and a tumbler of eggnog here, a couple latkes and some butter cookies there — you could pack on two to three pounds over this five- to six-week period. That doesn’t sound like much, except few people shed that extra weight in the following months and years.

You don’t need to deprive yourself, eat only boring foods, or take your treats with a side order of guilt. Instead, by practicing a bit of defensive eating and cooking, you can come through the holidays without making “go on a diet” one of your New Year’s resolutions.

The 3 Moves Gabrielle Reece Swears By to Tone and Relieve Stress.

Gabrielle Reece knows a thing or two about staying in shape. After all, the professional volleyball player and fitness expert has made a living out of staying fit, which is why she is all the more excited to host NBC's newest fitness competition, Strong. The 10-episode series (Sylvester Stallone is a co-executive producer!) takes 10 women from all walks of life who are looking to improve themselves mentally and physically. They are paired with 10 of the most elite male fitness trainers in the nation and will face a series of challenges each week that push them to their physical and mental limit. "I love to exercise to keep my body fit and strong," says Reece, "but I also appreciate things we can do to help us keep tone and relieve stress. In this busy world, we have to get [exercise] in when we can!"

Spirituality is the way you find meaning, hope, comfort, and inner peace in your life. Many people find spirituality through religion. Some people find it through music, art, or a connection with nature. Others find it in their values and principles.

How is spirituality related to health?

This is the time of year when we all come together to share the same intention, which is to express our appreciation for our many blessings. During our time with our families and friends, we reflect upon every facet of our lives and how we have been blessed with great people and formative experiences. During the next 2 weeks, our some of our speakers of the Virginia Women's Business Conference will be sharing some tips on how to maintain a grateful heart while everyone is putting demands on you during the stressful holiday season?

To start us off, here is how Renee Branson maintains a grateful heart:

I am a big believer in practicing boundaries. Having a spirit of gratitude is so much easier to do when we have healthy boundaries...especially during the holidays when we are pulled in so many different directions. Knowing what to say “no” to allows me time, energy, gratitude, and joy to put into the things that are most important to me. Having those boundaries keeps me from becoming resentful...which is the killer of gratitude. Set your priorities, protect them with good boundaries, and take the time to savor all that you have to be grateful for.

Renee Branson

Don't forget to like The Virginia Women's Business Conference Page to get all the tips during the next 12 days. :-) https://www.facebook.com/vawomenbizcon/

In the stereotypical Ozzie and Harriet family of the 1950s, men ruled the roost while women ruled the roast. That's no longer true (if it ever was), but in most households women are still in charge of nutrition. They stock the pantry, plan the menus, and fill the plates. In most households it's a good thing, since the average woman knows more about nutrition than the average man. But when it comes to optimal nutrition, there are differences between the sexes. The differences are subtle, but they may affect a man's health.

Here is a quick summary of the similarities and differences in dietary guidelines for men and women.

Women's Health & Wellness Summit

In the process of losing weight and staying fit, women often end up making mistakes like eating too less, not working out as per their body type and expecting instant results.
It is essential to concentrate on having a balanced diet comprising all the nutrients, and compliment it with regular workouts by making exercise a fun activity rather than a boring task.

Here's a fitness guide for women who are too caught up with their work, having no time for fitness:

It’s not uncommon for modern women to have a lot on their plate -- especially for the growing number of working females who are trying to balance a career with having a personal life. It is easy to get overwhelmed with responsibilities and obligations. Sometimes, a busy schedule gets in the way of taking care of yourself, but letting that happen can actually make things worse. Neglecting self-care has real consequences for your mind, body, and even your professional life. If you don’t prioritize your well-being, it will manifest into bigger problems.

The solution? Fitting self-care into your busy schedule is all about creativity. When you find easy ways to contribute to your overall health, it doesn’t seem like such a time-consuming task.

Here are some of my favorite ideas:
