THANK YOU! Over the span of nearly four months and 181 mass vaccination events across Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo, we administered 415,626 doses of the life-saving COVID-19 vaccine to our fellow Coloradans. We are grateful for the support of all the incredible Centura Health caregivers, volunteers, partner agencies and others who came together to make these complex vaccination events a success for our communities. Let's be clear: the end of our mass vaccination events does not mean an end to our vaccine commitment. We continue to administer the COVID-19 vaccine at our clinics across Colorado and western Kansas. Head to www.centura.org/vaccine to find an upcoming appointment at a clinic near you.

Ken Iannarone recently celebrated one year of his COVID-19 recovery with a gratitude field trip to Parker Adventist Hospital. Ken went to Parker Adventist's Emergency Department in May 2020 and was immediately admitted to the ICU, where he was in a medically induced coma for three weeks. Ken has spent the past year in physical therapy building strength and re-learning some of the basic skills that he now enjoys on a daily basis: walking, buttoning his shirts, and opening a gallon of milk. Thank you Ken and Sandy for coming back to see our incredible Parker caregivers and for allowing us to celebrate your successes!

While most of the country observes Bike Month every May, in Colorado we celebrate it each June, when the weather is more reliable for riding outside, especially in the high country. There are lots of reasons to hop on a bike this month (and every month), but here are a few of our favorites:
🚲 Riding a bike is a natural stress-reducer
🚲 Cycling burns calories and helps with weight loss while being easier on your joints than other forms of exercise
🚲 Biking can improve your coordination
🚲 Riding a bike improves your heart health
🚲 Cycling reduces vehicle congestion on area roads while also decreases harmful emissions
Let's hear from you: What's your favorite reason for biking in Colorado?

It's the time of year when many of us head to our local rivers, streams and lakes to recreate or even just to cool off from the rising summer temperatures. Though the water often appears inviting, it can be extremely dangerous. Please follow the guidance of the American Red Cross to ensure your time in the water doesn’t end in a visit to our Emergency Department:
• Be sure you are water competent for natural environments before swimming.
• Always wear a properly fitting life jacket.
• Always enter unknown or shallow water feet first.
• Watch out for currents, waves and underwater obstructions.

We are proud to announce the launch of Centura Health’s annual Health Equity & Advancement Fund, a $1 million community grant program to advance social justice through health equity initiatives across our communities in Colorado and western Kansas. Grants will range from $5,000 to $250,000 and be awarded to programs that serve diverse communities and/or populations, focus on diverse caregivers, and leverage collaborations with other partners to increase social impact.
“The events around racial justice in 2020 accelerated the work we were doing over the past few years to take more focused, impactful actions to address systemic racism and the issues surrounding health equity,” said Dr. Oswaldo Grenado, SVP and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Centura. “In our vision to make every community, every neighborhood, every life – whole and healthy, we are continually working to enable our associates and communities to inspire change.”
To learn more about the fund and the grant application process, which opened today and has a deadline of July 31, visit https://www.centura.org/centura-health-equity-advancement-fund.

We had an energetic visitor at our COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Colorado State Fairgrounds yesterday. Unfortunately, because he was not yet 12 years old we couldn't provide him a dose of the vaccine.
We don't use lassos, but we would like to rope you into stopping by a vaccination clinic to get your safe and highly effective dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. For more information or to sign up for an appointment, visit www.centura.org/vaccine.

Today we had the distinct honor of dedicating a community garden in Pueblo in honor of Ray Aguilera, a longtime community activist and city leader. The Ray Aguilera Community Garden features 20 garden beds and is part of our ongoing commitment to fostering whole and healthy communities.
Before his passing, Ray worked with leaders at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital and the St. Mary-Corwin Health Foundation to spearhead this project, knowing the garden would provide fresh produce to people living in a food desert. These garden beds are designed to be adopted and managed by community members and nonprofits, allowing them to harvest the fresh vegetables.
“By building this garden, we hope to provide nearby residents with access to healthier food for them and their families,” said Mike Cafasso, St. Mary-Corwin's CEO. “Even before COVID-19, Centura Health and our hospital identified food insecurity as a key priority in our mission to nurture the health of the people in our communities, and the pandemic has only heightened the need.”

"I did such a great job getting through my first cancer diagnosis in 2014 (endometrial stromal sarcoma, Stage 1B) that I got to do it again with something completely different in 2020: invasive ductal carcinoma pT1cN0. Yay me!
"I had my original surgery at St. Mary Corwin in 2014 and started attending sessions and events at Dorcy Cancer Center. In 2020, I also received my radiation treatment after breast cancer at Dorcy Cancer Center.
"Fun fact: I just retired and moved to Hawaii! I figured it’s about time I started living, and I might as well do it in paradise." -- Deb Grymkoski
As we celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day today, we honor the four pillars of this special day: to celebrate cancer survivors; to inspire those who are recently diagnosed; to support the families of survivors; and to provide outreach to the communities we serve. All cancer survivors are invited to a special free virtual event from 1-3 p.m. MST. Event details and access are via our Centura Health page: https://fb.me/e/dqZq68KCc
