The most common way for people to contract plague is from fleabites, but people can also get the disease through contact with infected animals. Wild rodents and other small mammals in La Plata and Archuleta counties may be infected with the plague.

SJBPH investigates prairie dog population die-offs for the presence of plague. If an active colony of prairie dogs suddenly disappears, please report this to SJBPH.

SJBPH urges residents to take precautions to prevent the spread of animal-borne diseases. Avoid contact with high-risk animals. If you are bitten or exposed to the animal’s saliva or secretions, seek immediate medical attention and notify SJBPH.

SJBPH also stresses the importance of controlling the presence of rodents and mosquitoes around homes and wearing insect repellant and appropriate clothing when heading outdoors.

Should my child get sealants? 👶 🦷

Sealants protect against 80% of cavities for 2 years and continue to protect against 50% of cavities for up to 4 years. Children aged 6 to 11 years without sealants have almost 3x's more first molar cavities than children with sealants.

Question... What’s the criteria for the county to progress to a level red: stay at home?
Why is SJBPH taking pictures of employees in stores??
Stop putting people more at risk to score political points. Look: Dr. Russell Blaylock, a nationally recognized board-certified neurosurgeon, health practitioner, author, and lecturer warns that not only do face masks fail to protect the healthy from getting sick, but they also create serious health risks to the wearer. Dr. Russell Blaylock, Blaylock: Face Masks Pose Serious Risks To The Healthy, Technocracy News & Trends, (posted May 11, 2020). https://www.technocracy.news/blaylock-face-masks-pose-serious-risks-to-the-healthy/ [Recent studies] found that about a third of the [healthcare] workers developed headaches with use of the mask, most had preexisting headaches that were worsened by the mask wearing, and 60% required pain medications for relief. As to the cause of the headaches, while straps and pressure from the mask could be causative, the bulk of the evidence points toward hypoxia and/or hypercapnia as the cause. That is, a reduction in blood oxygenation (hypoxia) or an elevation in blood C02 (hypercapnia). It is known that the N95 mask, if worn for hours, can reduce blood oxygenation as much as 20%, which can lead to a loss of consciousness. The importance of these findings is that a drop in oxygen levels (hypoxia) is associated with an impairment in immunity. Studies have shown that hypoxia can inhibit the type of main immune cells used to fight viral infections called the CD4+ T-lymphocyte. This occurs because the hypoxia increases the level of a compound called hypoxia inducible factor-1 (HIF-1), which inhibits T-lymphocytes and stimulates a powerful immune inhibitor cell called the Tregs. This sets the stage for contracting any infection, including COVID-19 and making the consequences of that infection much graver. In essence, your mask may very well put you at an increased risk of infections and if so, having a much worse outcome. Id.
Why are all the tourists coming in to our area ? Doesn’t that spread the virus across state lines?
I think you need to share how many negative results you are getting in addition to the positive test results for COVID. Thank you
Hi SJBPH, I was told by City Market (south) customer service today that they refuse to enforce the state mandate to wear masks. Around 6pm there were at least 10 people (including employees) walking around the store without masks. Please help the Durango locals feel safe while grocery shopping. Is there something we can do to ensure the enforcement of the state mandate?
We would like to this type of detailed data from our public health officials, thank you in advance.
Imagine contracting the Coronavirus and surviving it with nominal symptoms. And once you’ve recovered and recuperate, trying to get your lung capacity back, some genius, who isn’t your physician, tells you you have to restrict your breathing by wearing a mask.
Thank you SJBH for working so hard over these past months, and for the hard work and long hours you'll put in moving forward. You are appreciated!
14 new cases today. Not good.
YOU NEED TO STOP THREATENING BUSINESSES THAT DON'T ADHERE TO THE "MANDATE". IT'S NOT LAW, A MANDATE IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE BUSINESSES OR THE PERSON. MASK MAKE HEALTHY PEOPLE SICK AND THE SICK JUST STAY HOME. STOP THREATENING BUSINESS CAUSE THEY KNOW THE STUPIDITY THAT IS RUNNING THIS AND OTHER COUNTIES.
